Job Information

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Police Department Employees Association (APDEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current contract between the Municipality of Anchorage and the APDEA.

Example of Duties

Under direction, process administrative and clerical duties, to include but not limited to, clerical support for the Crimes Against Children Unit, maintain unit equipment inventory, office supplies, records and files. Coordinate with internal personnel and external agencies under time constraints. Work both independently and/or in a team environment, to include with outside agencies such as DPS/AST, Alaska Cares, OCS, MYC, District and Municipal Attorneys and more. Process and research information, maintain records, and perform data entry functions using a variety of systems and software, including but not limited to: NCIC, APSIN, Tiburon, Packetwriter, MobileOffice, CopLogic, DMV, ARS, CLEAR, State of Alaska Records Databases and standard Microsoft Office software. Perform unit specific duties, to include but not limited to, transcribing interviews of felony and misdemeanor physical and sexual abuse incidents involving both minors and adults, BioKey police reports from CACU mailbox, maintain confidential documents and information, including the review, data entry, file management of FSO reports, APSIN audits and Runaway case management. Provide court testimony as required. Perform other office duties and functions as assigned. The CACU Clerk is responsible for maintaining a professional working relationship including open dialog and communication with the supervisor, their co-workers and employees of other partner agencies. Utilize a team-concept positive attitude with high standards of performance in support of the operational function of the Anchorage Police Department. Work effectively alone and/or in a team capacity. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of clerical office experience.

Must possess the ability to type 35 WPM at the time of hire.

All applicants must possess and/or complete:
  • Satisfactory drug screening by time of hire.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check at time of hire.
  • Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification within thirty (30) days of hire.

Additional Important Information

Preference will be given to Anchorage Police Department (APD) employees. APD employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-APD applicants.

The APD Internal Selection Process will be utilized. The Internal Selection Process includes evaluating and confirming applicant information and developing a ranked list by the following factors:

  • Written CACU Transcription Test - (50 questions, minimum 70% passing score). Applicants that pass the written test will be invited to participate in an Oral Board.
  • Oral Board (minimum 60% passing score)
  • Discipline Review
  • Secondary Discipline Review will occur at time of transfer. (The list will be re-ranked, if necessary, to account for both new discipline and expired discipline.)

The eligibility list for the Crime Against Children Unit Clerk assignment is good for one (1) year from the date following the conclusion of the selection process, when the Certified Eligibility List is published.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position requires Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) security clearance and access, and also FBI National Crime Information Center (NCIC) security clearance and access within thirty (30) days of hire. If the individual selected for this position fails to obtain these clearances and accesses within thirty (30) days of hire, he/she will be terminated.

Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Forms 214, DD Forms 256, NGB Forms 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
