Hennepin County District Court welcomes qualified applicants for a Court Operations Associate position in Criminal Division II Brookdale. Court Operations Associates work individually and in teams using independent judgment along with available resources to perform a variety of administrative assignments. Court Operations Associates in Division II interact with a wide variety of court users and stakeholders including community members, judges, law enforcement officials, and attorneys.

Criminal Division II handles solely criminal and traffic cases for the communities of Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Champlin, Corcoran, Crystal, Dayton, Golden Valley, Greenfield, Hanover, Maple Grove, New Hope, Osseo, Robbinsdale, Rockford, Rogers, and St. Anthony.

Example of Duties

The following are examples of major job duties expected for this position to perform:


  • Accurately update calendars and records for high-volume, fast-paced courtrooms
  • Collaborate with Judicial Officers, Court Reporters, Prosecutors, Defense Attorneys, Probation Officers, and Law Enforcement
  • Perform high-level case processing, data entry, and financial transactions utilizing court technology systems
  • Coordinate, communicate, and collaborate with team members to ensure daily work assignments and case processing are completed efficiently and accurately
  • Review and process court filings for timeliness, statutory compliance, and proper document security as required by local and court-wide policies and procedures
  • Assist and communicate with court users in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner to ensure the customer's needs are effectively met in-person, over the phone, or through electronic means

Typical Qualifications

Below are the past experiences that will enable success in the role. For education requirements listed, the equivalent number of years of related experience may serve as a substitute. For example, if completion of a 4-year degree is listed below as a requirement, 4 years of related experience without a degree may be acceptable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working in customer service
  • Experience working in a clerical or administrative position (for example: Court Clerk, Legal Assistant, Medical Billing Specialist, Administrative Assistant)
  • OR equivalent education and experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Paralegal, Associate, or Bachelor's degree
  • Significant customer service and/or administrative experience
  • Experience in a legal setting such as a courtroom clerk or paralegal
  • Experience with document imaging, indexing and working with cases/documents from electronic workflow queues
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to continuously learn and retain new material, concepts, and ongoing procedural changes
  • Well-organized and analytical
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, work well under pressure in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, and adapt to change
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with attorneys, probation officers, court staff, judicial officers, and the general public
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to lean other job-related software
  • Ability to process financial transactions accurately with an eye for detail
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills including patience, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to de-escalate difficult customer interactions
  • Team-oriented, with a positive attitude

LOGISTICS: The Criminal Division II team is located in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota at 6125 Shingle Creek Pkwy, Suite 200 (first floor.) The courthouse has free parking available and is located near major freeways making for a convenient commute. This is a primarily in office position with limited remote work opportunities. The core hours for this position are 8:00 am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday, but may vary depending on the assignment and operational needs within Division II.

SALARY RANGE: The expected starting salary for external candidates is at least $21.00 per hour and may be higher, depending on qualifications. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of Minnesota employee benefits.
