Job Summary:

The Cost Accountant will oversee and analyze all cost expenditures related to the manufacturing processes in the facility. This position is responsible for producing detailed cost reports and analyses in support of operations and sales. The position is also the finance liaison with the Inventory team in support of accurate and timely inventory general ledger transactions. In addition the position is responsible for developing and maintaining the financial cost reports necessary to fully explain standard and gross margin analyses and the variances to planned results. All manufacturing cost aspects including material, labor and overhead, price-volume-mix analyses as well as efficiency, productivity and spend variances will be monitored and explained.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

· Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.

· Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.

· Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.

· Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.

· Presents prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.

· Maintains cost data base by entering and backing up data.

· Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

· Analyzing Information , Estimating, Planning, Reporting Research Results, Data Center Experience, Strategic Planning, Attention to Detail, Informing Others, Requirements Analysis

· Prepare monthly operational reports explaining material, labor and overhead efficiency and productivity costs in comparison to plan

· Acts as the finance lead for annual physical inventory and monthly cycle counts; work with the operational resources responsible for these processes to assure timely and accurate financial reporting implications.

· Works with Sales and customer service team to analyze, discuss and suggest adequate pricing based on operational costs within the facility

· Lead the annual standard cost development and roll of same

· Prepare and maintain standard adjusting journal entries with related support as relates to operational cost accounting and monthly inventory book to perpetual

· Support external audit and tax preparation functions as relates to cost accounting

· Support the Director of Finance and Assistant Controller in responding to inquiries from management, auditors, headquarters and other authorities regarding cost accounting issues, data in reports, financial information and policies and procedures related to cost accounting

· Review current and suggest additional operational reports to properly assess the financial implications of manufacturing activities

· Suggest projects focused on improving operational tasks as relates to improving efficiency, productivity, spend and labor tasks

· Continuously search for process improvement to increase efficiencies

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and ERP systems

Education and Experience:

· A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school or five or more years of experience in costing.

· Experience in estimating/quoting for a plastic injection molding company is highly preferred.

· Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred
