POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Resident Education, the Coordinator of Programming works to ensure that the residential population remains engaged and supported in their personal growth while living in the residence halls. This is accomplished by offering programs that are developed to promote collaborations on and off campus. The Coordinator strives to ensure that programs are both educational and diverse in presentation. The Coordinator works with students and staff to resolve a wide range of resident issues, provide on-campus and off-campus referrals, as well as integrate students into the life of the College. Work involves moderate decision making and judgement. This position also provides guidance as an advisor to the Residence Hall Association.
The Coordinator lives on campus to provide immediate response to critical student issues that may occur outside of regular office hours.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate, plan and implement programmatic efforts of Residence Life throughout the academic year to introduce residents to available services and to integrate the students into the life of the College.
- Oversee a programming budget for the department; use resources efficiently and provide appropriate programs that support student involvement and retention.
- Serve as an advisor to the Residence Hall Association to guide and support student leaders.
- Directly supervise a Graduate Assistant, and indirectly supervise the Resident Assistant Staff for a specific building to ensure students and staff members are held accountable to the expectations.
- Provide leadership in developing sense of community;
- Create an inclusive, safe community for all residents.
- Provide insight and training on programmatic efforts for in-person and online capacity when needed.
- Administer and oversee a building of 400-500 residents.
- Facilitate weekly staff meetings.
- Serve as a Judicial Officer for all policy violations in the building under their direct supervision. This includes holding students accountable and providing educational outcomes to assist and/or provide residents with better tools to make more informed decisions in the future.
- Work directly with students to resolve interpersonal, community and academic concerns to better enhance academic success.
- Participate in campus-wide, duty rotation to provide 24-hour emergency and crisis intervention to provide a professional response to community concerns.
- Liaise with building management and security to provide consistent customer service, and to stay abreast of all issues happening within the facilities.
- Collaborate with colleagues in various offices on campus to ensure students are bonded to the College.
- Serve on Student Affairs committees as required.
- Meet with students to discuss guest exceptions and educate them on the policy as it relates to community living and expectations of the Residence Life Department.
- Perform other related duties and/or responsibilities as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or another related field required.
- 2-4 years of professional Student Affairs experience.
- Experience working with on-campus housing.
- Ability to plan and organize programs and activities designed to enhance student life and retention is essential.
- Ability to recognize programmatic trends in the Higher Education field in organizing guidelines for yearly programs in line with the College’s mission.
- Must possess strong leadership skills; supervisory experience required.
- Ability to rapidly acquire a general knowledge of overall operation, functions and programs of Columbia College.
- Ability to quickly acquire and apply a variety of local, state, federal and Columbia College policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Set goals and priorities, make reasoned and balanced decisions in moderately complex situations, and meet deadlines
- Experience handling crisis/emergency situations on a college campus
- Strong supervisory skills.
- Ability to adjudicate student issues.
- Ability to collect, compile, analyze, and evaluate factual data and make oral or written presentations based on these data.
- Ability to advise students individually or in groups on routine matters, and general knowledge of principles of individual and group behavior
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with employees and external agencies.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written skills.
- Ability to foster and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse student, staff, faculty and community members.
