Primary Responsibility
Respond to and investigate code enforcement complaints for the Department of Community Development. Also provides secondary support to the Department of Public Health for permitting and code enforcement. In addition to code enforcement functions, this individual will be required to work closely with the Office Assistant & Permit Technician to provide customer service and administrative support for all services provided by the department.

Salary Range: 16 - $21.75 – $30.46 per hour**
Hiring Range: $21.75 – $26.11 per hour DOQ

Main Job Duties

  • Respond to and investigate code compliance complaints generated by the public and county staff.
  • Monitor the unincorporated areas of the county and self-generate code compliance cases based on observed violations.
  • Manage code enforcement cases from beginning to end including but not limited to: property owner notification, issuance of citation, recording of legal notices, reporting to the Office of the County Attorney, and assisting court cases.
  • Assist property owners and violators in obtaining appropriate permits if necessary and seeking voluntary compliance with the code prior to seeking penalties and court-ordered enforcement action.
  • Maintain excellent records and documentation of all code complaints, including all communication that occurs between the county and a potential violator.
  • Assist in processing building permit applications, including plan review, and permit issuance.
  • Coordinate on-sight inspections of structures and properties with the county building official.
  • Provide customer service and guidance to the public for all services provided by the department via phone, email, and in-person requests.

Additional Job Duties

  • Cross-train in other department roles to be able to serve in the absence of other department employees.
  • Provide administrative and code enforcement support to the Department of Public Health.
  • Greets office visitors upon arrival. Determine customers’ needs and either provide the requested information or service or refer customers appropriately. Visitors include external and internal customers.
  • Prepare public presentations on Community Development matters.
  • Present before the Gilpin County Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners on land use and code enforcement matters.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Community Development Director.
