APS CASEWORKER/CASE MANAGER

LAS ANIMAS COUNTY DEPT. HUMAN SERVICES- ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES (APS)

ANNUAL SALARY: Position is a salaried position with an annual wage of $44,741 after successful completion of ninety (90) day probationary period. (Salary will be $3,653.85 per month during 90-day probationary period).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

A caseworker shall be required to demonstrate competency in the following areas:

Case Workers work under direct supervision while learning job tasks and developing skills and knowledge. They meet with supervisor frequently for direction and make significant decisions only with supervisor oversight. All documentation is reviewed by supervisor. Case

Workers provide case work services for various programs offered through Department of Human Services; perform initial intake and

Supervisor assisted ongoing case management; perform initial assessments and evaluations of individual or family needs and safety; assist in providing crisis intervention; provide basic direct services; recommend service referrals to Single Entry Point (SEP) home based services, referrals to community resources, and/or protective services; develop plans to assist clients and submits for supervisory review; and maintains records, documentation and reports related to services provided.

EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Established theories, principles and concepts of social casework practice.
  • Human physical, emotional, psychological and social stages of development.
  • Addiction, domestic/family violence, developmental disabilities and mental health issues, signs/symptoms.
  • Child and/or adult protection issues and investigative procedure, laws and timelines.
  • Multicultural issues and differences.
  • Policies, procedures, philosophies, rules, ethics and regulations governing the services to clients.
  • Applicable state, federal, Native American Tribal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations and how they apply to child/adult protection.
  • Community resources available to assist clients.
  • All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
  • Recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques.
  • Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Caseworker must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and specified car insurance.
  • Caseworker must be willing to travel to rural areas of county and out of town as needed.
  • Caseworker must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Caseworker must be able to work after hours or on call if determined by supervisory staff.
  • Caseworker must be able to attend required out of town trainings and staff development activities.
  • Applicants will be required to provide a driving history if position is offered.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Social Work, Psychology or a related human behavioral science.
  • A newly hired Adult Protection Caseworker is required to successfully complete the Colorado Department of Human Services training requirements for caseworkers within the mandated timeframes to be eligible for continued employment.
  • In order to meet the minimum educational requirements of a human behavioral science degree, the applicant must have a degree with major course work (equivalent to 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours) in either development of human behavior, human

development, intervention techniques, diagnostic measures or therapeutic techniques such as social work, psychology, sociology, guidance and counseling.

PREFERRED QUALITIES:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish helpful but not required.
  • Knowledge of either youth or geriatrics.
  • Medical knowledge and medical terminology helpful but not required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Valid Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required
  • Dress Code: A professional and appropriate dress code is in effect for all employees of the office.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires substantial movement with respect to repetitious standing and sitting within the office area.

On occasion, may be required to lift light to moderately heavy loads.
