SUMMARY OF ROLE:
The Associate Director, Scientific Communications & Publications plays a vital role in development of key scientific communications and publications within our US Medical department. Reporting to the Director, Scientific Communications & Publications, this individual will be responsible for strategic and tactical planning, development and implementation of scientific communications activities, execution of high-quality publications, and production of high-quality written/digital materials that support engagement with therapeutic area experts (TAEs) and development of successful clinical-stage programs. The Associate Director will be a strategic thinker with close attention to detail, outstanding oral and written communication skills, and ability to communicate complex scientific concepts in a compelling and concise manner to various internal and external stakeholders.
Specific Responsibilities:
Scientific & Medical Communications:
- Drive the execution of scientific communication tactics (eg, core slide decks, scientific platforms, disease education content, Medical Field resources, digital resources) including key congress activities
- Contribute to the development of the US Scientific Communications Plan
- Identify and engage internal and external subject matter experts for participation in scientific communication tactic and content development
- Develop expertise in disease area through continuous surveillance of the medical and scientific literature for relevant publications, and lead development of monthly literature updates
- Contribute to the development of scientific content and execution for congress medical communication activities (eg, medical booth materials and planning)
- Facilitate review and approval of medical communication materials through medical & scientific committee review
- Manage scientific communication vendor(s) in all aspects of working relationship, including budgets and contracting
Publication Development & Management:
- Contribute to the development of the US Strategic Publication Plan with an understanding of how these activities support the overall Medical Strategy
- Lead and manage the execution of publication tactics (eg, manuscripts, abstracts, posters, oral presentations) across the US product portfolio consistent with Servier SOPs
- Implement appropriate US publication strategy and provide ideas for generating publications to fill clinical, economic, health outcomes, quality of life and scientific knowledge gaps
- Lead routine US publication team meetings to facilitate strategic discussions/decisions related to publication planning and execution
- Serve as the US Publication subject matter expert for the Therapeutic Area product(s) and maintain expertise in TA/Product scientific data, industry-related information, and evolution of disease state
- Interact with the global publications function and alliance partner(s) to ensure that compliant publication processes are followed
- Manage publication vendor(s) in all aspects of working relationship, including budgets and contracting
Other duties as required or directed by the Manager or Functional Management
Skills and Education:
- Advanced degree preferred (PhD, PharmD, MD), or relevant work experience
- Prior experience in scientific communications and publications is required
- 5+ years of direct experience in scientific/medical communications department of a pharmaceutical/biotechnology company or agency, with experience in scientific/medical communications planning and execution, and publication planning and publication development
- Strong project management skills and leadership poise to negotiate and facilitate alignment among various internal and external stakeholders (eg, therapeutic area experts, authors, cross-functional teams, patient groups, researchers, clinicians)
- Ability to work with teams and/or agencies to develop content for medical educational programs, abstracts, posters, oral presentations, manuscripts, slide decks, and digital resources
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication and presentation skills
- Strong planning and organizational skills to prioritize projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Understanding of industry regulations and guidelines governing publications and medical communications (eg, FDA, OIG, GPP3, ICJME)
- Advanced computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Experience with medical content management systems (eg, Datavision, Veeva) and biomedical reference databases (eg, PubMed, Ovid Medline) is a plus
- Oncology experience is preferred but not required
- CMPP qualification preferred
Other Relevant Information:
- Remote-based position with travel to HQ as needed
- Up to ~20% travel (US and international) to attend regional and international conferences/workshops
