Assistant General Counsel Job at STO Building Group
STOBG’s legal department is actively seeking an experienced attorney for immediate employment. The successful candidate will provide legal assistance to STOBG and its affiliates throughout the United States, and at times in connection with the UK/Ireland and Canada. The focus will be on construction, primarily from the view of the Construction Manager/Design Builder. The position is based in New York, New York.

Responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to:
- Actively and timely negotiating contracts (owner contracts, subcontracts, master agreements, joint venture agreements, task orders etc.).
- Multi-tasking on time sensitive contract reviews, claims and/or litigation, and general advice requests.
- Ensuring implementation of, and team adherence to, sound contract management and risk assessment policies.
- Responding to subpoenas and supporting discovery requests.
- Conducting training across different functional areas on terms and conditions, corporate policies and risk mitigation.
- Preparing of reports, memoranda, correspondence, and other documents, as necessary.
- Working collaboratively with a diverse group of professionals, including executives, attorneys, risk and insurance managers, and other corporate services groups including compliance, marketing, human resources and safety.
- Using online databases to document work and maintain updates.
- Participating in legal department calls to provide updates on current matters.
- Managing litigation and directing and overseeing the work of outside counsel.
- Supporting the legal department’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals amongst the legal department, the company, and outside vendors.
- Manage special projects as required to support the business.
- Other activities as directed by the General Counsel.
Essential Skills & Attributes:
- Practical and positive team player with the ability to professionally collaborate in a results-oriented environment.
- Experience with a broad portfolio of issue in construction is required along with a proven understanding of the legal factors influencing the industry.
- Excellent judgment with the ability to balance competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, drafting, negotiation and written/verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and resolve problems.
- Ability to work effectively in a highly confidential environment with the highest standards of ethics and professional integrity.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in New York state.
- 7 plus years of experience as a practicing attorney, with 5 year of experience working on construction related matters.
- Construction law experience, which may include drafting and negotiating agreements for construction and/or other service-based contracts, and handling claims and litigation related to construction projects.
Salary Requierments
- $130,000- $210,000
