Art Gallery Assistant (Art Miami 2022) Job at Nikola Rukaj Gallery
Rukaj Gallery is a Toronto-based, commercial fine art gallery established in 1981. We specialize in modern and contemporary art from Europe and North America, with a focus on Post-War American abstraction. Rukaj Gallery exhibits at Art Miami every year, and we are seeking to hire a temporary Gallery Assistant to work in our booth at the fair.
This year's Art Miami Fair is located at 1 Herald Plaza (NE 14th Street & Biscayne Bay), Miami FL 33132 and runs from November 29th to December 4th, 2022.
We are seeking a Gallery Assistant who can work in the booth from Thursday, December 1st to Sunday, December 4th from 11AM to 7PM.
The Gallery Assistant will provide support to the Gallery Director and Gallery Associate (who are traveling down from Toronto for the duration of the fair). Tasks include:
- Greeting and assisting clients in the booth
- Art handling, e.g. assisting with hanging artworks, retrieving artworks from the booth's storage area, lifting and carrying artworks short distances
- Hanging gallery labels in the booth
- Administrative tasks, e.g. filling out Merchandise Passes when artworks are sold
Compensation: $18 / hour, for a total of approximately 32 hours.
Requirements:
- Reliable and organized
- Prior experience in a customer-facing role such as a gallery attendant/docent, visitor services associate, or retail associate (experience in a museum or gallery is preferred but not required)
- Knowledge of modern and contemporary art (post-secondary education in art history, museum studies, arts management, or similar is preferred but not required)
- Confident in their ability to learn and perform the tasks described above
- Fluency in English
- Because many Spanish-speaking clients attend the fair, an ability to converse in Spanish is an asset but not required
