Purpose:

To provide efficient construction, operation, and maintenance of all types of conductors, structures, and equipment used in the transmission and distribution systems.

Responsibilities:

Within the limits of approved board policies, operating guides and procedures, approved work plans and budgets, and specific delegation from the Construction Foreman, the Journeyman Lineman assumes the responsibility and has commensurate authority for the following activities, recognizing the continuing responsibility of this position for developing and maintaining a favorable Cooperative image consistent with the Cooperative Strategic Goals:

As a Lineman:

• Executes all types of complicated construction and maintenance of de-energized and energized distribution and transmission systems.
• Inspects lines while traveling throughout Co-op service area, advising supervisor of needed repairs.
• Advises and assists in the instruction and training of others, as assigned by supervisor.
• Follows all safety rules and regulations and immediately reports all accidents to assigned supervisor.
• Maintains working knowledge of all current operational and construction specifications, to ensure that all work is completed according to requirements.
• Uses two-way radio in accordance with Co-op and FCC regulations.
• Handles and operates automotive equipment, when required completing the necessary safety and mileage reports.
• Encourages communications with the public and co-workers.
• Must be readily available for callouts and willing to work extra and irregular hours.
• Maintains a valid CDL and complies with all other job requirements.
• Will readily attend overnight training sessions for out-of-town schools.
• Operates substation equipment including automatic reclosing devices, transmission, and distribution switches, as directed and completes related reports.
• Responsibly enforces safety rules for the protection of assigned crew and public and assures proper use of traffic warning devices when working on or near highways. Also, responsible for reporting all accidents to supervisor.
• Executes any other activity when called upon.

• Must hold a valid driver's license and CDL.
• Must comply with all general job requirements.

Working Conditions:

Employee required to work indoors and outdoors, with exposure to heat and cold. Employee shall not be required to work outdoors in rainy or other inclement weather, except when the cooperative finds it necessary due to an emergency.

Normal working hours will be scheduled Monday through Friday, between the limits of 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Education and/or Experience:

This job requires reading and writing, therefore, a high school diploma or the equivalent is preferred, but not required.
