We have an opening for Learning Support Instructor (Tenure-track) in the Humanities and Fine Arts Division at our Chattanooga State campus!

The role will be responsible for the following:

Develop courses, lessons, exercises and examinations in the area of Learning Support Reading and Writing based primarily on a 7-week term (two 7-weeks per fall and spring semester). Remain current within field of assigned instruction, related occupational areas and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college, divisional, professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations by attending meetings and serving as officers; participate in annual faculty evaluation process

Essential Functions:

Holistic Student Support

  • Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility and reflect equity-minded practices.
  • Respect rights of students and access to educational opportunities;
  • Counsel and advise students regarding academic preparation and career goals
  • Assist in formal and informal placement activities for employment and/or transfer to four-year institutions
  • Work to retain students
  • Provide out-of-class assistance to students
  • Support student activities

Organizational Culture and Inclusive Practices

  • Provide equity-minded support in the Humanities and Fine Arts Division that aligns with the College’s values.
  • Embrace and promote the College’s goals related to diversity, equity and inclusion and support the Humanities and Fine Arts Division’s efforts to utilize inclusive best practices.
  • Assist in recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned.
  • Participate in accreditation, assessment and performance funding processes.
  • Support and participate in college/division/department committees, organization and/or task forces to make recommendations in the College’s decision-making.

Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation

  • Structure student experiences to ensure equity, belongingness, accessibility, and relevance in academic, student life and co-curricular activities.
  • Teach assigned courses based primarily on a 7-week term (two 7-weeks per fall and spring semester)
  • Facilitate the classroom instructional process
  • Evaluate students, monitor progress, assign final grades in the campus Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Maintain attendance and grade records
  • Mentor and orient faculty and staff;
  • Maintain required classroom and office hours
  • Select texts, supplemental documents, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources
  • Develop supplemental instructional materials
  • Use current technology in preparation, creation and delivery of instruction
  • Create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed
  • Maintain updated course syllabi

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Reading, Writing or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with a documented record of community college and/or high school teaching experience specifically related to Learning Support in Reading and Writing, and experience in a variety of delivery formats.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The successful applicant will possess evidence of innovative Learning Support Reading and Writing instruction, will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the field of Learning Support for Reading and Writing, and will provide strong recommendations from his or her appropriate supervisors
