Summary: nonPareil is a post-secondary, nonprofit organization seeking to build better futures for adults with autism. The nonPareil experience combines technical and work-readiness, training to help prepare our students to work on teams and thrive in a professional environment, and develop skills in the technology industry. This position is responsible for writing the curriculum used for training our “crew” or students.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for developing learning and teaching resources that guide students through a particular course or subject area. The focus of the role is to create educational materials that are aligned with specific learning objectives and standards.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts and instructional designers to ensure learning materials are tailored to the needs of the target audience.
- Designing and developing learning plans, lesson plans, activities, and assessments that align with specific learning objectives.
- Researching and compiling instructional materials (e.g. videos, illustrations, conduct case studies) to support learning and engagement.
- Ensuring curriculum materials are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with established educational standards and regulations.
- In collaboration with the Director of Operations and Instructional staff, differentiate the relevant skills and outcomes for instruction for neurodivergent learners.
- Maintain a comprehensive curriculum database and library identifying potential curriculum for use by ability level and/or site.
- Collaborate with program leadership on scope and sequence of curriculum for the organization across all sites.
- Evaluate and adjust program design and curriculum as needed to maximize crew success.
- Ability to motivate and inspire others to produce quality content and meet deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- To be successful in this role, one needs to have strong research, writing, and communication skills, deep knowledge of instructional design, learning theories, education standards, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects at once, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Proven experience with curriculum development or design.
- Experience creating lesson plans that achieve key learning outcomes through engaging activities.
- Ability to deliver feedback in a constructive manner that motivates the recipient to implement the feedback.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently, while also being a dependable team player.
- Demonstrated use of assessment to inform instruction.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, time management and record keeping skills.
- Background in and passion for working with individuals and families from the special needs community.
- Knowledge of and experience with Autism Spectrum Disorders, preferably relating to curriculum development and instruction methods.
- Ability to thoroughly survey a variety of resources, select key information from within it, and organize that information into a clear, usable curriculum.
