VP of Lending (Non-Profit) Job at Confidential

We are looking for a dynamic VP of Lending reporting to the President/CEO. You will be part of an organization that is creating small business growth in the Twin Cities. We help small businesses grow their businesses with financing solutions.

This role is responsible for management of lending activities and the Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Loan fund activities.

You will build manage and grow the organizations direct lending portfolio, assists clients to identify, prepare, and pursue other capital providers, elevates, and delivers technical assistance, and maintains Meda’s strong brand and advocacy in the capital arena.

Strategy

  • Works with Executive Team to develop a coordinated and cohesive lending program growth strategy.
  • Participate in enterprise strategic initiatives. Helps develop, execute, and sustain these initiatives in collaboration with the ELT and other managing directors of the organization.
  • Implements processes and systems that will generate higher productivity and revenues.

Loan Sourcing

  • Manage and evaluate pipeline of CDFIs and small business lenders within the funding network.
  • Effectively manage the representation of lending strategies to a range of audiences at conferences, in one-on-one meetings, and in target markets.
  • Responds to proposals, creates budgets, and forecasts, and pursues fundraising opportunities for the Access to Capital Program.
  • Develops opportunities with potential investors, including governmental bodies and corporate/foundation entities.
  • Leads the development of relationships with community partners, local chambers of commerce, small business development centers, elected officials, banks, and local business organizations, in collaboration with Meda leadership and development staff.
  • Facilitates small business assistance presentations to banks and lending institutions.

Team Management

  • Trains lending team on analyzing clients’ creditworthiness in the loan application process and structuring complex small business credit transactions.
  • Ensures compliance with lending team member job functions, including but not limited to current client calls, portfolio quality calls, and site visits.
  • Oversees staff and program lending goals across the organization’s service areas.
  • Oversees lending team staff on developing a career path and leadership skills. Ensure team members have opportunities to learn and develop career and leadership skills.

Reporting

  • Monitor trend analysis on portfolio performance.
  • Assist in improving Meda’s underwriting and loan/investment policies and practices, and marketing and outreach practices and materials.
  • Implements and assists in the management of market analysis and community profiling strategies for the organization. Identifies and develops responses to opportunities to improve programs.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly Lending Committee material by contributing to reporting. Participate in periodic portfolio evaluations including presentation of recommendations for loan grades. Assist in the preparation of periodic written reports regarding the status of loan request.

Loan Administration

  • Obtain, underwrite, and analyze loan applications for commercial loans to support community/economic development projects based on criteria established for each program and loan policies within each program. Perform due diligence, site inspections, appraisal review, financial statement and pro-forma credit analysis, and credit evaluations of potential borrowers. Oversee credit memos and supporting documentation and loans.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and funders.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, or related field, plus five years’ experience (Manager-Level) or seven-plus years’ experience (Director-Level) in banking or lending and outreach efforts (preferably commercial/small business); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of FIVE years’ experience in small business lending. Experienced in community economic development and asset building.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. IT skills and the ability to quickly adapt to software.
  • Experience in community development financial analysis. Ability and experience in delivering services consultatively to diverse constituencies required.
  • A financial background with a strong understanding of balance sheet, income statement and cash flow analysis and loan underwriting.
  • Ability to write well, communicate verbally in a succinct and persuasive manner, and interact effectively with a wide range of individuals, e.g., colleagues, lenders, funders, low-wealth and minority borrowers, and technical assistance providers.
  • Strong analytical, time management, and organizational skills, including a high level of attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with alternative lending and credit enhancement programs, regulated Cooperative financial institution lending, SBA, USDA, CDFI, New Markets Tax Credits and other federal related lending programs.
  • Experience in non-profit board participation and government advisory committee participation
