Deep South Crane & Rigging, LLC has been a leader in the heavy-lift and heavy-haul businesses since the 1980’s. Family owned and operated, we specialize in planning and executing rigging and lifting projects that other companies would call infeasible or impossible. This is made possible in part by the in-house design and manufacturing of our own specialty crane line, VersaCrane, with models ranging from 750 to 3000 tons in capacity. These cranes are specifically designed to work in the tight confines of the petrochemical and power generation industries. This VersaCrane line is exclusive to Deep South, giving us a competitive edge. Along with the VersaCrane line, Deep South owns and operates a variety of other cranes from manufacturers such as Liebherr, Terex-Demag, and Tadano. This gives the personnel at Deep South a wide selection of equipment to design a solution that best fits the client’s needs. In addition to rigging and lifting operations, Deep South also operates a full line of specialized transportation equipment allowing Deep South to provide its clients with complete turn-key services.

A design engineer within Deep South’s VersaCrane department will be part of a team responsible for developing the next generation of cranes and attachments in the VersaCrane line. The design engineer will work closely with the department manager and other team members to design, build, and test the tools that give Deep South our competitive advantage described above. This job requires attention to detail, innovation, and diligence, but is rewarded by seeing your designs come to life in our in-house fabrication facilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Structural and mechanical design of cranes and crane components in accordance with applicable industry and safety standards.
• Prepare and review complex structural calculations for new and existing products.
• Develop structural and FEA models for complex component analysis.
• Produce and/or review detailed 2D and 3D drawings for fabrication.
• Calculate component center of gravities and weights in support of load chart development.
• Support crane testing and crane test planning.
• Support fabrication and machine shops with technical inquiries.
• Crane rating chart development and calculation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Mechanical or Civil Engineering
• Minimum of (5) years design experience in the crane industry (preferred) OR minimum (10) years’ experience in structural design.
• Knowledge of ASME, AISC, SAE, and applicable OSHA codes and Standards
• Fluency in AutoCAD and proficiency in Microsoft Office is required
• Written and verbal communication skills
• Professional Engineering License Required
