The U of A-Pulaski Technical College’s 3D Program, along with their partnership with Independent Case Management, offers young adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) post-secondary education and employment preparation, through its unique certificate programs. The 3D program promotes and assists in life and technical skill development in the areas of culinary arts, hospitality, and baking.

The ICM/3D Job Coach will provide weekly employment supports during 2nd/3rd year student’s on-the-job externship(s), including supervision, monitoring, and onsite task assistance during the student’s culinary externship, and potential post-graduate employment. This position works directly with the 3D student weekly, along with business owners/managers in the local community, and is a vital part of the success of the 3D student’s culinary goals, as well as, the UAPTC-3D program.

Work Schedule

Position is generally 15-20 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Hours and days will vary to accommodate the needs of the programs. Weekends may occasionally be required.

Qualifications/Specifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Will consider additional experience in lieu of degree.
  • Experience: Six months to 1-year experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred. Experience working in an educational setting, in an ADDT program, and/or a culinary program is helpful. Valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance required. Must obtain Arkansas Job Coach Certification prior to beginning work.
  • Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Ability to perform tasks efficiently. Able to type and use computer efficiently. Able to operate various office equipment such as copier, multi-line phone system, and fax machine.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, clients, and customers in an effective manner exhibiting tact, enthusiasm, and patience.
  • Must be a self-motivator with ability to take ownership of job responsibilities. Must have strong organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work with mentally, emotionally, or socially impaired individuals.
  • Essential Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting, manual and finger dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to perform job related duties which may require lifting, standing, bending, stooping, stretching, walking, pushing, and pulling with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Critical Cognitive Abilities: Demonstrated communication, organization, and time management skills. Demonstrated problem solving and planning skills.
  • Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to respond to staff, customer, and client needs in a timely manner by interpreting verbal and nonverbal expressions.
  • Other: Understands the mission and vision of Independent Case Management. Operates within the concept of client focused care. Must be an effective team member. Must adhere to dress code, good grooming, personal hygiene habits, and attendance policies. Maintains knowledge and conforms to ICM policies and procedures.

Primary Duties

  • Responds to the needs of the UAPTC 3D program as directed.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates 3D student needs as it relates to employment externships.
  • Assists the person receiving services in understanding their various needs and limitations and how to manage them.
  • Monitors and documents progress and challenges of the 3D student in the work environment.
  • Provides supervision, monitoring, and onsite task assistance during the student’s culinary externship, and potential post-graduate employment
  • Provides monthly documentation on 3D student externship.
  • Provides transportation for individuals between different locations, if needed.
  • Completes all internal and external documentation for 3D program.
  • Position requires that ARS Job Coaching Certification
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

  • Maintains positive relationships with 3D students and 3D/ICM staff. Is effective in interacting with others, motivation, and problem-solving.
  • Proactive in meeting the needs of students and staff. Responds promptly to needs or requests.
  • Keeps ICM project administrator informed of problems and recommends solutions.
  • Participates in education/development of staff and customers.

  • Adheres to dress code, personal hygiene, conduct, and attendance policies.
  • Accepts both positive feedback and feedback for improvement.
  • Demonstrates a supportive/positive attitude towards the company and fellow employees/staff and is a positive team member.
