Position Description:
The process engineer is a technical leader in the operations area he/she is assigned within Clinton Labs, Elanco’s largest US manufacturing center. He/she will be a subject matter expert with respect to the process and the equipment, engaged in troubleshooting, data analysis, and regulatory compliance. The process engineer will play a key role in multi-disciplinary teams to continuously improve the process area in the aspects of safety, reliability, quality, operability, throughput, and cost.
Minimum Qualification (education, experience and/or training, required certifications):
- BS or MS in engineering (mechanical or chemical)
- Good problem-solving skills to understand the scope of a problem and drive to resolution.
- High degree of competence regarding communication skills (written & verbal).
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities especially in a team environment.
- Self-motivated team player with the ability to work, prioritize multiple activities, and deliver results with minimal supervision
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
Additional Preferences:
- 1-5 years’ experience supporting a manufacturing process in a highly regulated environment.
- Experience in lean/continuous improvement.
- Experience with Aspen process modeling software.
- Experience with PI process data historian.
- Capable of applying Root Cause Analysis techniques to investigate issues.
- General knowledge of various liquid and dry product processing and handling equipment including, but not limited to, fermentors, piping systems, evaporators, centrifuges, dryers, conveying systems, granulating equipment, mixers, and packaging systems.
- General knowledge of various emission control and monitoring equipment including, but not limited to, baghouses, cyclones, carbon adsorbers, condensers, total hydrocarbon analyzers, mass flow meters, and opacity monitors.
Functions, Duties, Tasks:
Process Engineering:
- The primary focus for this position will be providing technical support and engineering solutions to process and equipment related issues.
- Shared responsibility for regulatory compliance:
- Knowledgeable about the hazards of manufacturing processes. Aware of and supports PSM requirements and other safety/environmental policies/procedures.
- Ensure changes to the process are documented through the change management system.
- Ensure process issues are identified and captured in the management system as an event or deviation and that a proper root cause analysis is completed.
- Provide daily support to the operations team regarding equipment and process troubleshooting.
- Be knowledgeable enough on the computer support systems to aid in troubleshooting the process, analyzing data, and conversing with the operators.
Continuous Improvement:
- Drive continuous improvement throughout the process, which will involve working with maintenance and operations and the management of some capital projects. Project work may include defining project scope, selecting appropriate equipment, overseeing design and construction, and performing qualification activities.
- Collaborate with other process area members to evaluate sources of variability and find ways to reduce them. Possible sources of variability will involve the process, equipment, operator execution, and procedures.
Other Information:
- 8-hr. shift. Attendance at some meetings outside of normal work hours will be required. Work is usually performed Monday through Friday; however, one may be called in on weekends or evenings for process support.
