Position Summary
This position will work on technical publications and related materials for aviation operations, training, safety, HR and other corporate departments. The technical writer will follow standardized company formats and templates in order to develop documents within WebManuals, an online digital document authoring application. The candidate works under moderate supervision in a collaborative team environment. An ability to conduct independent research is useful, though not critical. The candidate will perform administrative documentation tasks associated with maintaining company operating practices, processes, policies, and procedures. This will involve data entry and word processing in addition to the conversion of materials from various formats (Word, PDF, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) into the company's document management system. The candidate should have good software user skills and be resourceful, organized, and comfortable working independently on assigned tasks or as part of a team. Assuring high-quality documents and completion of assigned workload in a timely manner is vital to the success of this position.
List of Duties
The following list outlines the major duties that may involved, in varying degrees, with this position.
- Coordinate with department managers and designated subject matter experts (SME) to identify and document departmental policies and procedures supporting those policies.
- Use company designated software to organize, document, and publish company policies and procedures.
- Produce, format, and distribute physical and electronic technical documents, quickly and accurately, using a variety of web and client-based productivity tools.
- Organize or manipulate graphics, images, schematics, figures, tables or other visual objects to be included in documents using a variety of media resources and formats.
- Review, proofread, edit, and revise existing material and/or newly created documents to ensure quality, technical correctness, and grammatical accuracy prior to submitting for review and publication.
- Consistently interpret and comply with various document standards, formats, instructions, styles, or templates.
- Work collaboratively alongside a variety of company staff, subject matter experts (SMEs), and other content authors to gain a better understanding of subject matter, the intended audience, and message.
- Conduct research, quickly acquire knowledge, and gather information on complex topics from a variety of sources, including direct interaction with SMEs, subscription services, printed materials, U.S. Government or military documents, and online sources in order to ensure accuracy and completeness of documents.
- Master the company's chosen documentation application, WebManuals; a web-based application for creating, digitizing, controlling, and ensuring compliance of documents and manuals for aviation.
- Assist, as needed, with weekly audits to ensure compliance with company document access policies.
- Coordinate document shipments, including the tracking and maintenance of shipment receipt information.
- May provide routine information and assistance for troubleshooting document application/software issues and coordinates for additional support for any unresolved problems.
- May assist with overflow or other writing duties, as assigned, for other company departments.
Required Qualifications
- 0-1 years of writing/editing experience or coursework
- Demonstrated proficiency in English writing, proofreading, and editing
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Education Requirements
- High School graduate (or equivalent) or higher
Preferred Qualifications
- College experience with writing or technical research
- Certification from accredited Technical Institute or program
- Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Experience with content management system

- Must possess excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all employee levels and provide excellent customer service support, specifically when leading discussions and coaching departments through the process of identifying and documenting their procedures.
- Works under moderate supervision and participates in all phases of document project execution (to include research, design, development and publication).
- Ability to deliver high quality documentation with a keen eye for detail, particularly in the areas of grammar, structure, format, and spelling.
- Authors draft content or edits content provided by others to ensure publication of professional, high quality documents and manuals.
- Possesses a basic understanding of document layout and design (or a keen interest in learning the same).
- Works independently and as part of a team on non-recurring and routine processes; takes initiative with minimal direction to solve problems.
- Ensures work is completed accurately while maintaining sensitivity to confidential or proprietary matters.
- Candidate must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
- A general ability to operate standard manual and automated office hardware efficiently and effectively (computers, printers, copier, lamination machine, binding machine, paper cutter, etc).
Physical requirements of the job:
- Sitting for extended periods of time
- Some repetitive motions, particularly those associated with extensive computer use. Little physical effort
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee may be required to periodically board and de-plane aircraft via stairs, ladder, or on-aircraft access points.
- The employee is occasionally in close proximity to aircraft maintenance equipment.
Work Environment:
- This position is full-time, on-site, non-remote.
- This position operates in a professional office environment and is primarily sedentary. The position routinely utilizes standard office equipment.
- Extended periods of sitting, using keyboard, mouse and viewing computer monitor screen.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually mild to moderate with occasional/rare periods of increased noise level if in close proximity to operating aircraft.
- Employee must perform a variety of task, influence others, and use judgement to plan and accomplish goals.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Standard work hours are 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday, with a one-hour lunch.
- Travel is not typically expected for this position, though travel for training may be an infrequent possibility.
