Systems Admin/Virtual Storage Engineer
Iron Bow Technologies is looking for an experienced Linux Systems Administrator/Virtual Storage Engineer to support the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. This is a full-time, hybrid-remote opportunity and immediate need
The selected candidate will be tasked with operation of the virtual server environment across 4 locations consisting of ~600 network users and 70 Windows and Linux Servers. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for technology, particularly ensuring that end-users remain productive.
*This position will a hybrid-remote role with 2 days onsite each week (other 3 remote/WFH) or can be 100% onsite if preferred by the candidate*
Position Responsibilities
- Responsibilities will include configuring new implementations and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of server environment including (but not limited to) monitoring, backup, restore, recovery and tape library maintenance
- Responsible for providing backup, redundancy and availability of virtualized servers
- Work with 3rd party providers to ensure availability services are provided
- Configuration and deployment of new hardware and software applications
- Ensure daily, weekly, monthly checks are completed and operating procedures are followed
- Perform file system configuration and management; define and perform server backups and recovery procedures
- Recommend and execute modifications to improve efficiency, reliability and performance
- Manage enterprise directory services and support server infrastructure
- Act as project lead in the design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware, conducting capacity planning as needed
- Submit Knowledge Base articles, update technical and support documentation
- Responsible for storage, backup, testing and recovery of 70 Windows and Linux servers
- Support, troubleshoot, update and monitor server infrastructure
- Provide incident response and root cause/mitigation analysis for major incidents
- Prioritize and respond to help desk tickets as appropriate
- Maintain inter-site and intra-site replication between storage components for redundancy and disaster recovery contingencies
- Manage vCenter infrastructure to add / remove servers, storage and network components
- Leverage Windows Update Tool and Solarwinds to perform patch management and remediation of virtual server environment
- Stay abreast of industry virtual storage solutions being provided by OEMs
- Provide on-call after hours support in incident and problem resolution as needed
- Work with service maintenance providers (HP, Dell, Microsoft, etc.) to ensure goals and objectives associated with data center, network, server and endpoint services are met
- Perform emergency and non-emergency service outages and configuration changes to include updates in coordination with Change Control Board (CCB)
- Participate in Change Management, CCB and CAB decision making meetings
- Provide regular updates to management on progress and issues of assigned projects
- Coordinate with Systems Admin to maintain updated gold image for customer leveraging Microsoft Deployment Tool (MDT) to perform baseline imaging all endpoints
- Coordinate with Systems Admin/Server Engineer to support quarterly baseline image updates as directed by customer
- Monitor critical virtual server infrastructure using Solarwinds
- Perform server updates and upgrades
- Support documentation on processes, changes and implementations
- Patch virtual servers within vCenter
- Support desktop refresh initiatives (every 4 years)
- Travel Requirements: less than 10% local travel
Required Candidate Experience / Qualifications
- Must have 5+ years’ experience administering server and/or storage environments
- Candidates need VMWare and vCenter management experience including monitoring, backup, restore, recovery and tape library maintenance and operations
- Significant experience implementing and troubleshooting vSphere 5.x/6.x (or equivalent)
- Proven ability providing backup, redundancy and availability of virtual server environment
- Experience with load balancing, clustering and caching procedures and processes
- Substantial experience installing, configuring and maintaining server hardware such as (including but not limited to) Dell, HP, VMWare ESXi and vCenter
- Hands-on experience with server performance tuning and monitoring tools
- A sound knowledge of network components and topologies is needed
- Expertise utilizing Virtual Private Cloud environments (VPC) Servers (Amazon Linux, MS Windows) Amazon Machine Instances running in EC2 AWS RDS for MySQL and SQL Server Simple Storage Services (S3), Amazon Glacier Storage for long-term archival storage
- Recent experience with Identity Authentication Management including Active Directory and ADFS, Google G Suite, VMware tools, Windows OS, Redhat, SQL 2016, NetApp CloudSync, Lucid Charts (Account Management) is required
- Scripting experience and familiarity with Solarwinds, Linux OS
- Ability to create and update processes, complex diagrams using Lucid Charts
- Proven ability to balance and prioritize workload and deadlines
- VSAN and/or SAN as well as Dell Unity and Isilon experience is a plus
- The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for technology, particularly ensuring that end-users remain productive. The candidate will have the ability to adapt to evolving products, software, and hardware.
- BS/BA degree in computer science, information systems or related discipline
Certifications
- Active VMware Certification, such as VCP-DCV/DT
- MCSE (MCSA or MTA is acceptable)
- CompTIA Network+ or A+ certification
