Surgical Technologist - Day Surgery Center OR (Full time) - $5,000 Sign on Bonus Job at Northwest Community Healthcare
Shift: Full time, Days, 40 hrs/week
Reporting to the Director of Surgical Services, with accountability to the Clinical Unit Leaders and Team, the Surgical Technologist assists the surgeon by providing the appropriate instruments and equipment for surgical procedures while maintaining the sterile field.
1. Identifies and obtains the required surgical instrumentation, equipment and supplies required for surgical procedures based on physicians request and the needs of patient; exchanges drug trays as needed under the direction of licensed medical staff. Inspects, properly cares for and handles surgical instrumentation and equipment appropriately.
2. Performs scrub responsibilities according to physician's preference and hospital policies and procedures. Anticipates, and is attentive to, the surgeon's needs for instruments, ligatures, sponges, irrigation, etc. during the surgical procedure.
3. Demonstrates the skills necessary to provide a safe environment and communicate effectively with all age groups of patients – pediatric through geriatric.
4. Adheres to principles of asepsis; appropriately handles any break that may occur in sterile technique.
5. Performs efficient transitioning of supplies, instruments and equipment from one patient to the next in collaboration with the surgical team.
6. Handles specimens according to procedures.
7. Stocks operating room to par levels. Checks specialty items and reports shortages to appropriate individual.
8. Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures.

1. Graduate of an approved surgical technology program.
2. Previous experience in surgery or on-the-job scrub experience.
3. Certification in surgical technology preferred.
4. Must possess current CPR certification from American Heart Association.
5. The interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with hospital staff and surgeons.
6. The organizational skills necessary to prioritize responsibilities and duties so they are performed in a proficient manner.
7. The analytical skills necessary to assess and respond to physician, staff, and patient needs.
8. The ability to maintain professionalism and remain calm and poised in difficult situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Requires continuous standing and walking for most of shift. Requires frequent (3-6 times per hour) bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and overhead reaching and frequent lifting and carrying of 15 lbs. to 30 lbs. Requires occasional (10-15 times per day) lifting and carrying of 30 lbs. to 70 lbs. and occasional pushing/pulling of up to 300 lbs in wheeled equipment.
2. Flow of work requires concentrated mental, visual, and auditory attention most of the time. Concentrated mental, visual, and auditory attention combined with manual dexterity is required for sustained periods of time.
3. Requires visual acuity adequate to assess patients and read/record patient charts.
4. Requires auditory acuity adequate to converse with patients, take phone orders, and receive directions from physicians and coworkers who are wearing masks.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. There is frequent risk of exposure to infectious diseases, biophysical hazards and high-pressure medical gases.
