This is a full-time position (180 days) at Summit Academy. Daily compensation based on experience.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Regional Office of Education has the opportunity to serve students from 13 school districts in need of alternative education opportunities. Students are referred to the programs for a variety of reasons but will be met with a caring and dedicated staff focused on meeting both their social and emotional and academic needs.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a high school diploma (or equivalency) with some experience or training in a security-related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Additional Monetary Stipend Paraprofessional Certification, or we will assist in obtaining for those who qualify
- Experience with restorative practices and de-escalation work
- Strong communication skills
- Physical performance that includes the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling
- Proven experience in promoting a safe, orderly, and caring school environment
- Experience in engaging students in appropriate behaviors and activities that promote character and facilitate academic growth
- Current working knowledge of current trends in gang activity
- Good knowledge of school system and individual school crisis response and emergency plans
- Good knowledge of conflict resolution, aggression management, crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies, student and staff self-protection, crime prevention, bullying prevention, and drug and alcohol prevention
- Experience working with at-risk youth
- Experience working in an alternative learning environment preferred
- The ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described below.
Position Expectations:
- Assists and supports teachers with both classroom management and educational activities.
- Makes classroom presentations and individualized/small student group instruction on program-related topics in coordination with instructional staff.
- Monitors student behavior and implements interventions for improvement.
- Serves as safety aides and/or academic aides as indicated by student need.
- Supports students’ daily routines.
- Facilitates and/or assists in educational groups as requested.
- Supervises classroom behavior in lieu of faculty
- Promotes character education concepts and serves as a positive role model.
- Communicates effectively with students, parents, administration, and staff.
- Maintains the safety of the building and utilizes safety protocols including (but not limited to) proactive de-escalation techniques, etc.
- Attends and participates in all scheduled supervision, staff meetings, training, and professional growth opportunities
- Communicates to the administrator, lead security, and/or instructional staff on the same business day any pertinent student information in order to update daily routine, academics, and interventions.
- Communicates to supervisor immediately any information of an emergency nature
- Maintains high visibility throughout the building and grounds.
- Collaborates closely with the lead school safety, security officer.
- Serves on and attends the safe school team.
- Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations.
- Completes all required and requested daily documentation (e.g. incident reports, intervention reports, student academic reports) and assures documentation is submitted to appropriate location.
- Completes monthly reports and other accountability reports as assigned.
- Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities, as assigned.
