Position Summary:
The Store Manager is accountable for all aspects of the retail location and is the primary leader of the store and its staff. The manager also develops and motivates staff and volunteers to provide the highest level of customer service and to maximize sales.
In addition, the Store Manager is the primary liaison between Ten Thousand Villages and the local community. The manager seeks out and develops networking opportunities in the community to increase the store’s customer base and ensure that Ten Thousand Villages has a presence in the community.
Position Duties/Responsibilities:
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
· Effectively managing store operations and payroll, so that in conjunction with sales, the store is profitable.
· Delivering appropriate and informative presentations to community groups that will increase the local presence of the store.
· Managing day-to-day operations including inventory levels, visual merchandising and marketing standards and accurate financial reporting.
· Hiring, training and coaching store staff.
· In partnership with the Assistant Manager, recruiting and developing volunteers.
· Maintaining a presence on the sales floor (approximately 60% of time) that contributes to sales and to the growth of the sales staff by modeling the standards in the Ten Thousand Villages selling process
· Anticipate and resolve customer service issues.
· Perform opening and closing procedures including balancing registers, accurately completing opening and closing paperwork, ensuring store is locked and money is secured, ensuring lights and electrical devices are turned off at night, and taking deposits to the bank.
· Maintain awareness and communication of store metrics including sales goal, conversion rate goal, dollars/transaction goal and meet goals through excellent customer service and effective selling techniques.
· Schedule the store team to ensure consistent coverage of the sales floor and plan and schedule store staff meetings.
· Maintain an awareness and control of loss prevention through attentive customer service.
· Delegate and participate in routine store tasks, including maintenance of displays and back office, receiving, pricing and stocking orders, and completing timely and appropriate floor moves.
Preferred Experience/Knowledge/Education/Skills/Abilities:
· 3 - 5 years’ experience in retail management and/or sales preferred.
· Self-motivated, outgoing, energetic and enjoys working with people.
· Confident in arithmetic and data entry skills, including the ability to balance registers and complete bank deposit paperwork.
· Working knowledge of basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and the Internet.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Excellent leadership, organizational and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to execute multiple tasks and changing priorities while simultaneously maintaining awareness for details.
· Ability to motivate and influence a team and achieve results through actions and example.
· Ability to attractively display merchandise according to company guidelines.
Physical Requirements:
· This job operates in a standard retail environment not exposed to adverse weather conditions but occasionally subject to varying temperatures. Standing for extended periods and walking for short periods of time are also required.
· This role uses standard office equipment, requires close visual acuity, frequent typing, both hearing and talking abilities, and the ability to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Additionally, the ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, finger, grasp, and feel objects of varying textures and size is frequently required
