Senior Test Technician – Research and Development

The Musco Research and Development Team is currently seeking a Senior Test Technician to work from our Oskaloosa office, and we offer relocation packages for candidates outside of this area. This position will focus on performing product testing activities in support of an overall goal of minimizing field failures and lowering warranty cost. What you will do as a Senior Test Technician:

  • Conducts various performance, validation, reliability, or product compliance tests of the company’s product in accordance with test criteria established by policies, procedures, regulations, or written test plans and maintains accurate records of test results and reports results to the requestor.
  • Must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of electronics and troubleshooting at both the circuit and system levels.
  • Provide technical guidance to the test technicians pertaining to failure analysis and test methodology.
  • Significant involvement in the creation of complex test fixtures and systems.
  • Implement electrical/electronic designs including PCBA, electrical cables, test fixtures, and electronic control cabinets.
  • Calibrate, repair, and modify electrical control systems and environmental, mechanical, and HALT test chambers.
  • Perform preventive maintenance in accordance with approved maintenance plans and work orders
  • Specify, set up, configure, and calibrate instrumentation and data acquisition systems for the purposes of test monitoring.
  • Conducts various comparison tests of competitive products and components in accordance with test criteria established by policies and procedures or written test plans; maintains accurate records of test results and reports results to the requestor.
  • Ability to read schematics, technical drawings, and manuals to isolate faults and repair equipment.
  • Prepares prototypes of components assemblies and systems of either new or current products as directed by policies and procedures, written test plans, or work requests. Ensures that the prototypes meet the established specifications and are assembled following IPC guidelines.
  • Operates required machinery and equipment in a safe manner following established safety rules, maintains a neat and clean work area, follows established tool and instrument control procedures, and reports any unsafe acts or conditions to his or her immediate supervisor.
  • Performs inspections and installation of parts and components on devices under test (DUT); maintains accurate records of the installation of these parts and the collection of test data.
  • Reports to the supervisor or department manager about all ongoing projects about project status, completion time projections, and any problems that may have arisen during the project.
  • Regular use of environmental chambers and other test equipment.

Engineering Integration

  • Gather input from product developers, reliability engineers, and others to determine the appropriate suite of tests.
  • Provide feedback to product developers for design corrections and enhancements.
  • Assist Codes & Standards personnel and outside test labs to get appropriate third-party certifications (FCC, IEC, etc.).

Interdepartmental Integration

  • Assist with beta tests and sites as appropriate.
  • Interface with Applications Engineering, Field Services, Manufacturing, and others during the installation and start-up of installations and beta sites.

Other

  • Interface with and perform or witness testing at outside test facilities as required in the performance of product testing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you need to be successful.

  • Two-year technical degree in AAS Electronics Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prefer ten years of experience in product testing in an R&D environment.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and development of automated test systems preferred.
  • Experience with environmental and HALT testing preferred.
  • Experience with structured programming (C#, .net, LabView, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to operate shop equipment, including, drill press, lathe, mill, brake, shear, and band saws.
