We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Sr Manager Accounting on our Finance team. This position can be hybrid (working from both office and home), with a schedule to be determined by business needs.
As a Sr Manager Membership Accounting you will oversee functions providing accounting support and membership processing for all membership channels, including federation, direct, groups, and student outreach. Manage accounting and analytical support for all membership activities. Maintain relationships with and provide assistance to the state and county federation membership staff, as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting, Analysis, Processes and Systems
- Maintain all accounting for membership, including analysis of results, trend reporting, commissions, and reconciliations.
- Contribute to new reporting and analytical support for membership marketing and AMA’s financial reports to management and the Board.
- Act as finance liaison on systems development and enhancement for the membership system.
- Ensure adequate documentation for all Membership Accounting processes is prepared and updated on a regular basis.
- Establish and maintain adequate reporting of the volume and status of work in various ques and redeploy resources as needed to provide timely and accurate service to members and customers.
Direct Membership
- Direct an efficient posting process to ensure prompt posting and communication to the physician.
- Manage all accounting functions related to direct membership including cash receipts, lockbox, wires, roster postings; statements to customers; accounts receivable management; refunds; collection efforts.
- Manage month-end reports and track daily membership activity as well as new member enrollment.
Roster Membership
- Direct all accounting, reporting, and analysis functions related to Federation, Group, and Student Outreach membership processes.
- Provide direction and assistance for state medical societies and groups regarding the collection, processing, and transmitting of AMA membership dues and state memberships.
- Oversight of the Student Outreach annual comprehensive processing plan and execution to ensure timely and accurate updating of student records to the database.
- Oversight of membership dues commissions and incentives activities.
Staff Management
- Lead, mentor, and educate assigned staff; set direction, objectives, and project priorities; evaluate staff performance and support staff development.
- Ensure that all staff are knowledgeable in all aspects of membership processing.
May include other responsibilities as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum 7+ years experience in customer-facing accounting group (e.g. receivables, credit, and collection) required.
- People management experience required. Capable of selecting, developing, training, and motivating staff.
- Proven knowledge of GAAP.
- Skilled in use of relevant software packages; in particular, membership software applications, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), Lawson, and Business Objects.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management.
- A self-starter able to work in a demanding, deadline-oriented environment and required overtime during peak periods.
- Well-organized, extremely detail oriented, and effective at dealing with many activities simultaneously.
- Strong sense of confidentiality and discretion needed.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, make decisions, and effectively meet deadlines and commitments.
- AMA’s safety and policy protocols require proof of full vaccination against COVID19 for employment at AMA (including booster when eligible). Employees may apply for a religious or medical exemption from getting the vaccine.
