Social Worker II - Wake County Job at North Carolina Adult Correction
***This position is currently located within the Department of Public Safety but will transfer to the Department of Adult Correction (DAC) when it is established on January 1st, 2023***
This position reports to Social Worker Supervisor III at a multi custody female correctional facility and will provide specialized social work case management to offenders who have behavioral, mental, emotional and physical disorders. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Providing services to offenders that consists of individual and group counseling, crisis and preventive intervention, community resource referrals, and re-entry planning.
- Providing social work services in complex cases which require the flexible use of a wide range of social work skills and intervention techniques.
- Understanding that approximately 85% of women in prison are mothers and the primary focus of this position is working with offenders to address their children’s issues and providing in depth assessment of their family dynamics.
- Collaborating with the Department of Social Services in all 100 countries in North Carolina and in others states where the offenders’ children reside and contacting other ancillary personnel, such as school counselors and social workers, group home and foster care personnel, as well as the Court.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of* Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm* and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.
Note to Current State Employees:
The salary grade for this position is NC11 (Salary Range: $41,429 - $72,500). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW):
North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women, in Raleigh, is the state's primary correctional facility for women. It houses the largest offender population in the state and serves as the support facility for the state's other female prisons. The campus-style facility sits on 30 acres of a 190-acre tract of state land in southeast Raleigh. NCCIW houses offenders of all custody levels and control statuses, including death row, maximum, close, medium, minimum, safekeepers and youth. It provides the primary medical, mental, and alcohol and chemical dependency treatment for female offenders.
The facility operates a diagnostic center that serves as the point of entry into the prison system for women. Upon arrival, offenders undergo a series of diagnostic evaluations that will determine future prison assignments.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's degree in Social Work from an appropriately accredited institution; or Bachelor's degree in Social Work from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; or Master's degree in a Human Services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; or Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
