General Summary:

Interact with the public through social media platforms using a unified messaging strategy developed in conjunction with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Communications and Community Engagement Departments.

The Social Media Coordinator is in charge of the office’s interactions with the public through social media platforms. The Social Media Coordinator will identify trends among social media interactions to help plan, design and carry out digital initiatives that educate the public of the role, purpose and services of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design and implement social media content strategies
  • Crafting compelling content according to approved protocols
  • Daily posting content across social media accounts according to approved protocols
  • Engage with the public through digital platforms following approved policies and protocols
  • Monitor other public agencies social media platforms to re-share, respond, clarify or correct issues if needed
  • Analyze engagement data collected on social media platforms and identify trends in the interactions, questions and concerns the public has with our office
  • Engage with the public through digital platforms following approved policies and protocols
  • Communicate weekly with Constituent Services regarding the topics of interest and inquiries received in our main inbox
  • Communicate effectively to all supervisors regarding trends and messaging needs
  • Liaise with Communications on ongoing and new messaging to the community not only on events and stances on issues, but specifically on convictions, court outcomes and charges on high profile cases that would guide social media content
  • Communicate daily with Community Engagement and Communications on events and/or press conferences where photography, video recording or livestreams are needed
  • Maintain records and data of photographs and/or video recordings of office events
  • Edit photographs and/or video recordings as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments, members and suppliers
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and structure work schedules
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good proof-reading skills
  • Attention to detail

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Full time position Monday – Friday in office
  • Some evening and weekend hours can be expected if working to deadline, posting on the weekends and/or assisting with community events.
  • If needed, travel within Harris County to event locations to livestream, photograph or record events
  • Support Community Engagement at events as needed

Required Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor degree level in a related field, experience of working in a Social Media/ external digital marketing or communications
  • Energy, enthusiasm and proven experience in producing digital content and digital best practice, preferably with a membership organization
  • Strong creative skills
  • Experience developing and managing social media across channels such as Twitter, Facebook, NextDoor and Instagram
  • Understanding of digital analytics and metrics, their importance and the tools to monitor, manage and evaluate them, such as Google Analytics
  • Experience in basic photography and creating/editing images, using packages such as Adobe Photoshop and Canva
  • Experience of basic video production, including filming, editing (preferably using Cut Pro or similar) and delivering via channels such as YouTube
