Residential Care Specialist will assist with creating a positive, upbeat environment building on client strengths. These individuals create an emotionally safe, non-punitive setting that is engaging and nurturing. All progress and significant events are documented and discussed with the Treatment Team, to ensure everyone is on the same page about doing what is in the best interest of our children.
Anderson Health Services is a mental and behavioral health facility that provides 24/7 emotional support to children and youth with a history of complex trauma. The hours for this position are 7 am-3 pm, 3 pm-11 pm or 11 pm-7 am. Everyone is dedicated to offering high-quality, culturally sensitive care to adolescents in need of emotional help and support.
The Snr. Residential Care Specialist at Anderson Health Services is expected to:
- Assist with the plans, and provides and supervise the daily activities to build self-esteem and appropriate peer interaction for each client.
- Documents daily progress for each client. Significant events and behavior shall be documented and communicated in daily process notes.
- Responsible for the direct supervision of clients.
- Assist with medication administration, after successful completion of probation, supervisor's recommendation, and passing medication administration training and testing which includes direct observation by assigned staff.
- Assist with planning and documenting visits and/or telephone calls and following each client’s visitation/telephone schedule.
- Builds a safe and positive relationship with each client using basic principles of reality therapy without punitive approaches while providing an engaging, nurturing structure.
- Appropriately intervenes to meet the needs of the client to gain the skills and confidence to address issues and problems as they take place.
- Works as a partner with other team members.
- Ensures clients’ needs for special services are addressed with program leadership.
- Assist with the coaching of staff on Anderson Health Services policies and best practices on each shift
- Provide support to staff in the event of a crisis
- Assist with ensuring that documentation/notes are completed on each shift. This includes Incident report completions (KIPU)
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned by supervisor.
- Flexibility in job schedule to accommodate the needs of the cottage.
- Facilitates activities that are developmentally appropriate, and trauma-informed.
- Oversee cleanliness and order of campus and buildings.
- Reports and responds to incidents as required by policy, procedure, and circumstances.
- Supports the implementation of effective crisis co-regulation strategies that minimize the usage of physical restraints.
Educational Requirements
- Requires a high school diploma, GED, or Associates Degree with preferably a minimum of two years of population-specific experience
- Four-year degree in Human Service or related field preferred.
- Must have the ability to respond effectively within and cope with an environment that can be extremely stressful on the mind and body.
- All potential job candidates must pass a drug screening test and an extensive background check.
This position will require a wide variety of physical tasks such as standing, walking, running, stooping, bending climbing stairs, and lifting individuals, which requires strength, coordination, endurance, and agility. In addition, there may be occasional contact with hostile clients, and incumbents may be subjected to physical and verbal abuse while executing physical or protective interventions. The employee must maintain sufficient physical ability, to ensure safety, in the event, a client becomes violent, and attempts to hurt themselves or others. The employee must be agile enough to control and rapidly extricate themselves and clients from buildings in case of emergency.
Additional Requirements
Must be 21 years and older and have a valid NC driver's license with a good driving record. Must be able to demonstrate effective self-regulation strategies. Must be coachable and willing to learn. All potential job candidates must pass a drug screening and background check.
