Holt CAT is the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. We have a full-time, 2nd shift Heavy Equipment Mechanic - Shop Service Technician position available at our San Antonio, Texas location which is located at 5665 Connally Loop, S East Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78222. The hours of the position are Monday-Friday - 3 pm to 12 pm.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of heavy equipment and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. Works independently or as a member of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfy customer needs and achieve departmental goals.

Entry-level position – Generally has two or more years of experience and/or demonstrated job-relevant knowledge/skills. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the job functions; works under moderate supervision.

Essential Functions:

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses basic equipment malfunctions and failures
  • Performs some disassembly and assembly of basic machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
  • Performs some rebuilding, repairing, reconditioning, and maintenance of equipment and components
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of estimating, planning, and controlling the cost of repair jobs
  • Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
  • Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
  • Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
  • Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • The ability to read, write, and understand information
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)

Education and Experience:

  • Two or more years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Travel:

  • No travel is expected for this position
