SHOP/INDUSTRIAL ARTS TEACHER
LOCATION: High School
REPORTS TO: Principal
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is in a high school Industrial-Technology classroom. The facility is both a classroom and a shop for students to experience classes such as Home Maintenance, Exploring Technology (STEM type projects), marketing, etc. While the TE endorsement is desired, different endorsements are acceptable based on the candidate’s ability to show experience in the use of power tools and the ability to adhere to strict safety guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university required
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
- Must be highly qualified as defined by the Michigan State Dept. of Education
- Experience working with at-risk youth
- High degree of technology skills
- Willingness to learn the tenants of Response to Intervention and Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (RTI/PBIS)
- Desire to collaborate with peers and work as a team
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches district approved curriculum
- Creates a safe and respectful classroom environment for all learners
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional technology to engage all learners
- Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons and units
- Uses a variety of formative and summative assessments
- Takes a trauma-sensitive approach when working with students
- Communicates professionally to students, parents, and colleagues
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
- Other duties may be assigned.

- Ability to adhere to and teach all students shop / tools safety protocols
- Ability to manage students in a large project-based environment
- Ability to work with community partners for fundraising/supplies/and project ideas
