Job Title: Senior Production Planner

Department: Purchasing

Reports To: Purchasing Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Supervise the work of others: No

Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is for the planning, organizing and supervising the comprehensive planning process for any need in the organization while assisting the Purchasing Manager. This person will be analysing production needs to meet production goals that have been established within the organization. This person will make decision recommendations for component purchasing, component molding, subassemblies and finished goods to build. Person will also have cross trained functional role to Buyers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and safety stocks of purchased components, molded components, subassemblies and finished goods by analyzing usage history and trends for planning and forecasting future requirements
  • Calculate safety stock levels.
  • Make recommendations to expedite/de-expedite PO’s.
  • Monitor macro-level health of direct inventory suppliers.
  • Calculate and maintain performance ratings of suppliers according to procedures.
  • Maintains available inventory items by verifying stock and scheduling delivery consistent with targeted inventory goals as set by management.
  • Act as a liaison between suppliers and involved departments to resolve procurement related questions and concerns.
  • Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, and support. When needed; issue requests for quotes/proposals (RFQ/RFP) and select best source consistent with cost, quality and delivery requirements.
  • Keeps information accessible by maintaining accuracy of part numbers within the company's ERP system, including lead-time, pricing, current supplier information, etc.
  • Initiate surveys of suppliers with Q.A. and follow-up corrective actions.
  • Have a working technical knowledge of the goods or services to be purchased to provide backup support to Buyers.

Required Experience:


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Self-starter with quick learning capabilities
  • Skilled in the use of computers and adapts to new technology in a timely manner
  • Generates new ideas and innovation for the purchasing department
  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • An understanding of contract negotiation/ bidding process
  • Business acumen with demonstrated leadership abilities

Preferred Requirements:

  • 3 to 5 years of purchasing and planning experience

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret purchasing process, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, venders and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Maintains a valid Driver’s License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Knowledge of modern business communication, office procedures and methods. Skill to use a personal computer and various software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to establish priorities, work independently with minimal supervision, and facilitate teamwork.

Equipment Used: telephones, computer, other office equipment as needed.
