Job Summary:

The Senior Network Engineer role is to ensure the stability and integrity Independence Blue Cross’s network infrastructure and services. Assists with planning, designing, and developing local area network (LAN), metro area network (MAN), and wide area network (WAN) across the organization. Participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will analyze and resolve network hardware and software complex problems in a timely and accurate fashion utilizing advanced troubleshooting methods, techniques, and tools, apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve systems issues.

Areas of responsibility will include managing LAN/MAN/WAN, Firewall (VPN), Load Balancing Technology, Wireless Networking, Cloud Networking, document and maintain advanced troubleshooting techniques and capacity planning methods on systems (e.g., diagrams, technical specifications, operating manuals.). Provide research and recommendation for continuous process improvement including evaluate vendor proposals review in line with procurement policies and procedures. Work on projects/systems/issues of medium to large complexity project as a project team member. Perform the duties of the Sr. Network Engineer as required.

    • Ability to listen to requirements and make recommendations based on knowledge of the environment and Networking knowledge
    • Works independently; receives minimal guidance. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Requirement for off- hours support including On-Call
    • Minimal travel required
  • Strong working knowledge of the following technologies:
    • Extensive knowledge of installation, maintenance and repair of network hardware and software
    • Extensive knowledge of network infrastructure, design, topology, protocols, and operating procedures (i.e., LAN, WAN, MAN, Wireless, Cloud technology, Wavelength Services)
    • Extensive knowledge of Cisco Nexus Switch Technology (i.e., VPC, NXOS & FEX)
    • Extensive knowledge of Cisco Catalyst Switch Technology (i.e., VSS, IOS including Universal, Layer 2/3 technologies, Stackwise)
    • Extensive knowledge of Cisco ISR and ASR Router Technology
    • Extensive knowledge of Routing Protocols (i.e., EIGRP, BGP, PBR, HSRP, VRRP, GLBP and OSPF)
    • Advance knowledge of Cisco NFG Firewall (i.e., VPN Client (IPSEC /SSL), LAN-to-LAN)
    • Advance knowledge of Cisco Wireless Technology (i.e., LWAPP & Autonomous) and Prime Wireless LAN Management
    • Knowledge of Cisco DNA
    • Advance knowledge of F5 Application Load Balancer (i.e., LTM, ASM, iRules)
    • Advance knowledge of DNS/DHCP and IPAM Technology (i.e., Infoblox)
    • Advance knowledge of Cloud Networking Technology - VPC, Networking, Firewall, Load Balancer, Connectivity (i.e., Google, AWS, Azure)
    • Advance knowledge of other Technology (i.e., Radius, TACACS, QoS, Packet Capturing and Analysis, Network Packet Broker)
    • Extensive knowledge of Network Monitoring & Troubleshooting Tools
    • Advance knowledge of NTOP (Packet capturing tool)
    • Advance network troubleshooting skills
    • Advance knowledge of QoS, VoIP, Multicast technology
    • Knowledge of coding software (i.e., Terraform, Ansible)

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, or equivalent
  • 7+ years of Data Network experience preferred

Desired Skills:

  • CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent hands on and network design experience
  • F5 – CTS/CSE or equivalent hands-on and network design experience
  • Cloud Network Engineer
