Senior Analyst (Microbiology) Job at EMSL
EMSL Analytical, Inc. is seeking a full time Senior Analyst specializing in Microbiology analysis for its Raleigh, NC location. The ideal candidate will be experienced in a commercial microbiology laboratory setting. The incumbent may be required to lead a group of trained analysts and technicians to ensure quality data, timely results, and compliance to ISO 17025 and internal standards. The contract testing laboratory environment is fast-paced and requires attention to detail, high-level organizational skills, and the ability to multitask. This job also requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The successful candidate must be familiar with daily activities in a microbiology laboratory, including analyzing bacterial and fungal samples by classical and advanced methods.
Prepare and analyze a variety of environmental samples for bacteria and fungi (e.g. Legionella, MRSA, Penicillium).
Prepare and analyze a variety of food samples for foodborne pathogens (e.g. Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli).
Analyze a variety of environmental samples such as spore trap (air), direct examination (surface) and water analysis.
Identification of unknown isolates utilizing biochemical tests (API strips or BIOLOG).
Assist in sample preparation.
Maintain the lab’s Quality Control Program and Standard Operating Procedures.
Sample and media inventory management.
Assist with Quality Control and internal/external audits.
Additional duties include writing final reports, following quality control procedures and interacting with clients.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in microbiology or life sciences and experience or a higher degree can be accepted in lieu of experience
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in testing clinical or environmental samples.
Some knowledge of quality programs such as AIHA (environmental), A2LA (food), or CDC ELITE (Environmental Legionella Isolation Techniques Evaluation).
Experience with the operation of fluorescence microscopy is a plus.
Experience with air samples, surface samples, food testing, bacteriology, and mycology is desirable.
Candidate must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis.
Good Communication Skills (will have some client interaction).
Good Computer Skills both in Typing and MS Office.
Understanding of client confidentiality.
Able to work independently and with a team.
Candidate must be detail-oriented.
Must have strong analytical skills.
Maintain workplace.
Must be able to work well under pressure and meet client deadlines.
Must be able to work some weekends and overtime if needed.
Available Shifts:
Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m..
