Duties
- Serve as a Security Guard performing duties such as protecting materials and Government property from sabotage, espionage, theft, fire, damage, and destruction.
- Control access/egress of personnel including members of the general public.
- Perform patrols of the installation's areas to include surety areas.
- Apply instructions in security procedures such as regular and special.

- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
- In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the employee to meet and maintain the Individual Personnel Reliability Program standards.
- Within one year of appointment the incumbent must meet and maintain the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program standards outlined as outlined in AR 50-6 as determined appropriate by the installation commander or his designated representative(s).
- Must have a physical examination annually, to assess continued ability for effective performance, and will be required to pass the current Physical Agility Test annually.
- Position requires Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) certification.
- Position requires Guard to input time into ATAAPS.
- Must successfully pass the Physical Agility Test (PAT) and sign a statement acknowledging have been so advised.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid drivers license.
- Must wear prescribed uniform.
- Must wear protective/chemical mask and other protective clothing and equipment.
- Must work in all types of weather.
- Must be on call 24 hours/7 days a week.
- Must work mandatory overtime.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Conduct maintenance, both routine and operation of all assigned weapons and related equipment such as handguns,shotguns, police baton, and handcuffs; 2) Implement law enforcement policies, procedures, and techniques, operating a variety of communication and electronics; AND 3) Utilize surveillance systems and equipment such as radios, transmitters,closed-circuit television and intrusion detection systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

- Participate in special training at least 8-12 hours each month as required and be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week and provides immediate response to situations such as terrorist threat, and other special threat situations to surety sites and other locations on post as directed.a. Security Guards will be tested each quarter on their response and reaction to any given situation. Security Guards are required to qualify with their assigned weapons and special weapons semi-annually. Must be knowledgeable of the organization and the substance/object being guarded to recognize abnormal conditions and the ability to relate or report these conditions/events to responsible officials sufficient so that subtle or crucial factors are not omitted; patrolling; domestic disturbances; officer survival, retention of hand guns, and unarmed self-defense; use of baton; Oleoresin Capsicum (OC); vehicle and felony stops; apprehensions and arrests; court procedures; and the preparation of forms and reports.
