Your Impact:


Primary duties and responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Act as onsite safety representative for any work activities being performed for the duration of a given contract.
  • Serve as the SSHO person of contact to conduct the required site and safety analysis and observations for environmental remediation and construction projects.
  • Ensure site compliance with specified safety and health requirements in Federal, state, and OSHA regulations
  • Prepare, implement, and ensure site compliance with all aspects of the health and safety plans including, but not limited to, activity hazard analyses, air monitoring, monitoring for ionizing radiation, use of PPE, decontamination, site control, standard operating procedures used to minimize hazards, safe use of engineering controls, the emergency response plan, chronic beryllium disease prevention program, confined space entry procedures, spill containment program, and preparation of records by performing a daily safety and health inspection and documenting results on the Daily Safety Inspection Log in accordance with 29 CFR 1904.
  • Participate in development of the safety plans, work plans, the integrated safety analyses, including specification of OSH/IH hazard controls and the development of work packages to address task specific execution
  • Ensures that all onsite personnel have demonstrated understanding of SH&E Plans, conducts onsite safety meetings, reviews SH&E documents and updates for any changed conditions, implements planned onsite contingency and emergency response program.
  • Ensure all personnel are competent (i.e., current in their training and medical surveillance) and remain onsite for all activities for which they are required
  • Stop work if unacceptable health or safety conditions exist.
  • Evaluate results and make recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ field experience in occupational safety and health administration or industrial hygiene (OSH/IH), five (5) years of which demonstrate relevant safety experience in overseeing OSH/IH programs for environmental investigation or remediation activities that involve the potential for occupational exposure to beryllium and compliance with 10 CFR 850.
    • Relevant safety experience includes preparing, implementing, and ensuring site compliance with occupational safety and health laws, codes, rules, regulations, and standards, and with all aspects of the health and safety plans, which include, but are not limited to:
      • activity hazard analyses, air monitoring, safety related exposure monitoring including use of air monitoring instruments, air sampling methods and interpretation of results (exposure assessment and reporting), development and implementation of respiratory protection programs, PPE selection and use, decontamination, site control, standard operating procedures used to minimize hazards, safe use of engineering controls, emergency response plans, confined space entry procedures, spill containment program, chronic beryllium disease prevention program, identifying hazards and suggesting and/or taking necessary corrective actions, conducting occupational accident investigations, and daily safety and health inspections and documentation in accordance with 29 CFR 1904.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant construction industry safety experience in supervising/managing general construction.
    • Relevant construction industry safety experience includes preparing, implementing, and ensuring site compliance with all aspects of the health and safety plans in accordance with occupational safety and health laws, codes, rules, regulations, and standards at sites with operations and activities that include, but are not limited to:
      • environmental drilling, sampling, and monitoring, excavation, trenching, operations and maintenance, noise mitigation and monitoring, personal protective equipment use and limitations, extreme heat/cold, heavy equipment, cranes/rigging, infrastructure installation and maintenance, and wastewater treatment.
  • Minimum of five (5) years management or supervisory experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as a member of an Emergency Response organization
  • Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the environmental and safety compliance fields with working knowledge of applicable federal and state occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Familiarity with requirements of USACE Safety and Health Requirements Manual (EM 385-1-1)
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Class
  • An average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past 5 years
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour initial and 8-hour supervisor training and, 8-hour refresher training
  • Current CPR/First Aid by a recognized organization such as the American Red Cross (or must have within 45 days of employment)
  • Training and experience to conduct exposure monitoring/air sampling and select/adjust protective equipment use
  • Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class, which may require light physical effort, ability to wear respiratory protection, and safely work in environments that may contain hazardous, toxic, and radioactive materials or agents
  • Must be a United States Citizen and able to pass DoD security checks
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
