Purpose:
This Safety Manager position is responsible for working with operations, maintenance, staff functions, and Union Leadership to develop initiatives and programs promoting safe work practices and improvements. Work with Safety and Operations to ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide leadership to support and assist all levels of management in achieving the facility and corporate goals for reduction of work-related injuries.
- Zero injuries is our goal.
- Lead in planning, creating, and implementing programs and processes to maintain a workplace that meets or exceeds federal and state safety requirements.
- Expert in regulatory requirements, industry standards and local safety matters including integration of Health/Safety Best Practices into the mill.
- Ensures a proactive approach to injury prevention.
- Support mill Keys to Success.
- Lead safety training and ergonomic improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate mill Safety initiatives with union Safety Advocates.
- Possess ambulatory capabilities to move around the mill, climb ladders, and catwalks.
- Oversee and coordinate site security and fire suppression efforts.
Required Skills
Responsibilities:
- Effective communication and leadership skills as well as demonstrated abilities to champion change and influence others at all levels of the organization are required.
- Previous experience in a union environment with an excellent safety performance record is highly desired.
- Industrial Hygiene knowledge.
- Ability to give encouragement, guidance, and direction to improve safety performance.
- Ability to listen generously and practice open advocacy.
- Ability to inspire and guide others toward identifying and achieving vision and goals.
- Demonstrated leadership in Process Safety Management program improvements.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in safety, safety engineering, industrial hygiene or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in safety, state and federal safety and health regulations; industrial environment is preferred.
- Special consideration will be given to individuals with a master’s of safety degree and/or CSP or CIH certification.
- Knowledge and experience in industrial hygiene, ergonomics and industrial or manufacturing is a plus.
