Overview:
Princeton University’s Department of Molecular Biology seeks applicants for a research specialist position to join a laboratory whose focus of work is DNA polymorphisms and human behavior. The successful candidate will work with the P.I. and other laboratory staff to 1) genotype DNA samples using PCR, real-time PCR, perform gel electrophoresis and related techniques; 2) telomere length measurement; 3) Process incoming DNA samples using qauantitative PCR; 4) assist in general laboratory work. Specific duties include: performing assays; ordering supplies and routine laboratory assignments under the supervision of the P.I. This position may participate in the selection of procedures and techniques to be used to address new problems. This position will be given projects which will require the application of acquired knowledge and skills for solution. The successful candidate will be expected to be able to set their own priorities in order to carry out assigned tasks. Bachelor’s degree with course work in molecular biology is required; master’s degree is preferred. Demonstrated ability to plan, to plan, coordinate, and carry out independent research required. Knowledge of DNA processing is req'd. At least 3 years' related experience, experience with quantitative PCR and high-throughput technologies required. Previous exp w/ DNA genotyping, measurement of DNA methylation,multi-channel pipetting preferred.
Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be expected to have quantitative skills necessary to independently qc and normalize data from qPCR experiments and compile reports of results. Additionally, she or he should be able to work with large numbers of samples and extract information from large datasets to be able to select samples for experimental analysis.
  • Quantitative PCR, preparation of samples for RNA-seq and DNA sequencing, genotyping, and DNA methylation analysis.
  • Instructing undergraduate students on standard laboratory assays.
  • Ordering and laboratory maintenance
  • Maintaining laboratory maintainance records.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Minimum 4 years' experience required
  • Course work in molecular biology
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and carry out independent research
  • Knowledge of DNA processing
  • DNA genotyping
  • Measurement of DNA methylation
  • Multi-channel pipetting
