Interviews patients for all types of pre-registrations/registrations. Functions as an information source for all inquirers. Collects money at time of services, maintains/distributes petty cash as needed. Signs in/out people using the Hospitality House in the absence of the Case Management Secretary. Corrects patient status when requested by Case Management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High school graduate or equivalent PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: 1. Interviews patients or their representative to assure demographic and insurance information is accurate. Pre-registers scheduled patients by phone and/or in person. 2. Obtains authorizations prior to patient's arrival as required by the insurance payers. Verifies insurance eligibility. 3. Begins authorization process for new admissions and observations. 4. Communicates to Case Management any insurance changes for new admissions and observations and if any follow-up needed for authorizations with the insurance companies. 5. Informs patients of their co-pays, deductibles & out of pocket not met and collects at time of pre-registration and/or registration. Obtains signatures on Conditions of Admission and various other forms required for the registration process. 6. Balances the cash drawer for each shift daily. 7. Takes payments received the prior business day to the PFS Cashier daily. 8. Validates medical necessity for all ancillary tests & issues ABNs when appropriate. 9. Refers Self Pay patients or insurance paying patients with high deductibles/out of pockets to the Financial Counselor and/or Support Services. Maintains and distributes petty cash as needed. 10. Corrects patient status when requested by Case Management. Works various reports daily and as assigned. 11. Signs in/out people using the Hospitality House in the absence of the Case Management Secretary. 12. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs. Flexible, organized and functions well in stressful situations. 13. Interacts professionally with patient/family and provides explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. 14. Answers the phone in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate staff/family member. Checks and stocks supplies as needed.
