TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The Board of Education, upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, shall appoint the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). The annual period of service for the Registered Behavior Technician shall be 185 days.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Support school teams by working directly with teachers, paraprofessionals, and students to prevent and manage challenging behaviors and teach replacement behaviors. Serve as a member of the Equity & Student Services team in the development of positive behavior support plans to improve student success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisor(s), and students.
  • Collects, records, and summarizes data on observable student and staff behavior using direct and indirect methods.
  • Assists with behavioral assessments (e.g., Functional Behavior Assessments, Brief Behavior Questionnaire and Intervention Plan (BBQuIP), etc.).
  • Coaches teachers, paraprofessionals, and staff in the use of behavior management strategies, de-escalation, and safety management procedures (e.g., MindSet). ? Implements, teaches, and models students’ behavior plans as outlined by the Behavior Interventionist and/or other designated school personnel.
  • Conducts fidelity checks to ensure proper implementation of behavior plans and/or instructional procedures.
  • Implements district de-escalation and safety management procedures with fidelity as needed.
  • Documents interventions, progress data, and maintains session notes.
  • Assists with the development of staff training materials and student behavior plan materials. ? Keeps supervisor(s) informed of pending issues and activities.
  • Pursues professional development related to behavior management, social emotional learning, and positive behavior interventions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct reports.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2 years work experience in paraprofessional position or similar position requiring adherence to specific individualized student plans
  • MindSet certification upon hire
  • Registered Behavior Technician certification, including annual renewal and registration, or desire to work toward receiving RBT certification

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • An Associate’s degree or higher in Psychology, Education, Special Education or related field; or completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education; or passing score on the Georgia paraprofessional assessment
  • 2 years specific work experience providing instruction to students with significant behavioral concerns
  • 2 years specific work experience generating and sharing progress and event notes including student data
  • Prior work experience and familiarity with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
  • Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician

EVALUATION: Performance of this job shall be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of personnel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: To perform the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, and hear. Lifting up to 30 pounds may be required on an occasional basis. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision and distance vision.
