Watauga Kayak is a local Whitewater Rafting, Kayaking, and Tubing Outfitter located in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Our contracted guides are paid by the trip.

The position of River Guide is a great opportunity to work on a new technical skill-set while growing your leadership, communication and teamwork skills. This is a great way to build confidence and get over shyness.

Watauga Kayak River Guides work on one river: the Watauga. River Guide applicants must be at least 18 years of age prior to their start date, and have current First Aid and CPR certifications. This is a physically demanding position and is classified as summer seasonal. Due to the seasonal demand of our business, we are looking for applicants that are available for a minimum of 3 months and are available to work until, at least, August 15th with our season ending in October. Applicants with shorter availability may still be considered based on hiring needs. Guide through rapids with crews of varying size, age, and number; understanding and implementing risk-reduction in navigation, communication, and decision-making
Communicate with guests about local area information, other Watauga kayak river trips.
Provide top-notch guest service to all guests, before, after, and during their trip
Participate in off-the-water tasks, including moving, loading and unloading rafts, assisting guests with gear, delivering instructional talks, and washing and organizing gear and equipment. Minimum availability between May to August 15th 2023.

Minimum of 40 hours of on water training during guide training days. This could be on weekends, afternoons depending upon trainee’s schedule. Normally starts in April May prior to season starting May 26th.Training for inexperienced guides will be each weekend in April and the first three weekends in May. The Cost is $200, which is refundable at the end of the season if all commitments are met. CPR/First Aid certificate is also obtainable during training for a cost of $30. Which is nonrefundable.
