Quality Inspector Job at New Center Stamping Inc.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary: Ensure quality conformance in all process and products adhering to customer specified requirements according to NCS, ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 quality guidelines.
Job Purpose: Monitor production output to assure customer satisfaction is maintained. Specifically, to assure the quality requirements are met according to NCS quality policy and current QMS standards. Enter production data in Plex in accordance to NCS requirements.
Verify that all in process product is properly manufactured, assembled & welded, handled, identified, and stored according to NCS quality procedures.
Reporting: Reports to the Director of Quality
- Understands and complies with all IATF 16949, ISO, EMS, and Safety requirements mandated by policy or law.
- Provide a safe and healthy work environment in compliance with all regulatory agencies.
- Quality Inspector Process Owner (or designated backup)
- Assists with or performs 1st pc approvals for all new set ups, using manila tag (QF-71) to identify the first piece and/or last piece sample(s).
- Makes sure the first piece sample is used as the master sample during the production run. Makes sure other boundary examples and visual aids for component, weld, mastic, and epoxy placement are maintained at the operation when applicable.
- Reviews all posted work instructions, and any necessary documentation is posted at the workstation.
- Assembly area, posting must include assembly, weld instructions, and any necessary documentation.
- Press Room, posting must include inspection instructions and necessary documentation.
- Instruct assembly and production personnel of important product and process information.
- Monitor assembly and production personnel to assure they are performing their work assignments according to posted instructions. This includes all visual aids provided near the workstation. Particular attention must be given to Mastic and Epoxy applications for assembly processes.
In the event work is being performed different from those work instructions, the Quality Inspector is to notify the production leader/supervisor and the Quality Team.
- Assist assembly & welders with the identification and prevention of various defects such as: scratches, splits, burn through, distorted welds, cold welds, slug marks, pin holes, weld splatter/burrs, miss-located components, handling damage etc.…
- Drives continuous improvement activities throughout the organization.
- Drives the zero-defect culture. Manages the fiscal exposure of product produced by the manufacturing operations.
- Provides optimistic attitude, and positive balance within the team and manufacturing.
- Assist press room production with the identification and prevention of various defects such as: scratches, burrs, splits, slug and handling damage, etc.
- Conduct offline part inspection using quality history and check fixtures, as applicable. Note the time, sign and date hourly inspection sample and maintain last hourly sample at operation, either on the fixture if applicable, or otherwise at the last operation.
- Makes sure all old and obsolete labels are removed from each container prior to being filled with new product.
- Makes sure all load and retaining container bar locking mechanisms are fully engaged and functional during the labeling process.
- Record production data in Plex at control panel.
- Complete all inspection check sheets in Plex as applicable.
- Records all scrap in Plex and makes sure parts are scrapped out consistent with their Plex recording.
- Help supervision to clean and organize their areas, assure all parts have proper disposition and samples, visual aids, etc are maintained and protected from damage during the production run, as well as moved to the proper storage area at the end of the production run.
- Participate in informative meetings and /or training classes as a way of including production personnel in quality related concerns or issues.
- Expected to provide problem analysis and decision-making skills to address potential assembly and quality concerns.
- Supports other directors and managers.
- Assist in other areas, when deemed necessary.
EMST Member:
Competencies and Education:
- Basic math and reading skills.
- Some quality related experience and SPC knowledge preferred.
- All quality exposure and computer related knowledge is helpful.
- Use of calipers, micrometers, and other inspection equipment preferred.
- Some experience in “Class A” sheet metal inspection is helpful.
- Capable of comprehending Core Documentation
- Perform well under pressure as a team player and assist with daily department functions.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stand up 10 to 12 hours a day.
- Must be able to work in a leaning position when inspecting parts.
