Position Summary
In need of highly motivated individuals who can work (mostly) unsupervised in highly fluid government buildings, in forward facing, customer service orientated unarmed security positions. Staffing will include 27 unique building posts and 14 unique parking posts. Duties will include front entrance and loading dock access control, building patrol, and parking management and traffic direction, while providing excellent customer service skills interacting with the public of the Commonwealth, facility employees and member of the reporting agency (DGS). Immediate openings.
Essential Position Functions & Key Duties
- Maintain an attitude of professional authority and provide helpful assistance to the public and facility employees in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Required to provide timely notifications to the reporting agency on situations relative to hazards, suspicious persons/activity and medical/other emergencies.
- Be a deterrent to crime and exhibit good customer service and problem-solving skills to aide in response protocols and engagement with diverse populations.
- Remain vigilant, alert, tactful and always engaged in professional and security-related activities while minimizing social and personal contact unrelated to business functions.
- Maintain daily Occurrence Logs and Incident specific reports to account for all services.
Education, Training, & Certifications Required
- Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. College education or equivalent is preferred.
- Obtain a VA DCJS 01-E Unarmed Security Officer License prior to beginning work. These courses will be taught in-house and includes a full fingerprint background check, classroom instruction, and final exam. This license must be renewed bi-annually by completing a recertification course also taught in-house.
Skills Required for Position
- Ability to interact cordially and communicate with a diverse community.
- Ability to operate a portable radio and provide clear transmissions in English.
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to assess and evaluate situations quickly, accurately, and effectively.
- Must be able to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) & Post Orders.
- Must have reliable transportation and always be punctual for assigned shifts.
- Must be able to work in all-weather environments
Other Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the U.S.
- Must have a strong and verifiable work history with focus given to customer service positions.
- Must submit to an extensive background check including: criminal history (VA State Police & FBI fingerprints), personal & professional references, & employment and education verifications.
- Must always maintain a neat, clean, & well-groomed appearance.
- Must be able to work a permanent schedule with abundant overtime opportunities
