Northern Stage, a LORT D 240 seat regional theater in White River Junction, VT, seeks
an experienced Stitcher to make updates to its BridgeUP: Theater in the Schools Show
Kits. The mission of BridgeUP: Theater in the Schools is to provide access to theater for
elementary and middle school students throughout Vermont and New Hampshire.
BridgeUP brings theater teaching artists into classrooms for a six week residency to
teach an entire grade a 30 minute adaptation of a Shakespeare play. This program
culminates in a public performance at Northern Stage.This position will be making
updates and fixes to the show kits for 5 different costume kits designed for 4-6th
graders in anticipation of our spring programming.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Execute costume fixes and alterations for all 5 show kits.
  • Interpret costume renderings, determine necessary yardage of fabric and trims,

fabricate patterns, and complete any new builds.

  • Assist with the purchase of new pieces to complete/update kits to have variable

sizes.

  • Work with the Director and Producer of BridgeUP to make sure all kits are ready

to go out to classrooms this spring.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 2 years professional experience in theatrical costume

construction.

  • Competent working knowledge of garment construction, alteration, and repair,

fitting costumes, and finish work.

  • Strong stitching and construction skills.
  • Experience with patterning and draping.
  • High degree of interpersonal and communication skills.

Contract Dates: 11/28/22-12/16/22 (dates flexible)
Compensation: $1,000/week ($3,000 total)
