The Programs Counselor will provide professional human services to incarcerated individuals at the facility to address issues relating to jail confinement, as well as issues relating to mental and social conditions of the detainee population by developing,overseeing and presenting programs relating to confinement issues, alcohol and drug dependency,coping skills, health issues, family issues and other programs as developed to address those issues. This position involves direct contact with the detainee population to assess individual needs, maintaining a record of counseling/treatment planning and follow-up assessment of each incarcerated individual on a scheduled basis, and compiling reports to various agencies relating to a detainee’s behavior as requested or required by our contract agencies.
Qualifications:
Desirable candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree with concentration in human services, sociology, psychology, or related field; criminal justice considered. May be augmented or supplemented by work experience in human service, corrections, or similar field.
In a direct supervision jail, corrections staff controls behavior of the jail population through a proactive concept based on direct detainee supervision. Personnel in a direct supervision jail are assigned to work inside each pod in physical proximity to the detainees. Candidate must possess the physical and mental endurance to respond properly and professionally to stressful situations.
