The MDV Director of Youth Development Programs and Services is responsible for designing, planning, implementing, and delivering quality youth programs that meet the needs of the Community. Program components and services are developed and aligned in partnership with the needs of students from neighboring schools. Programs focus specifically on academic support that impacts student social and emotional development.

The expectation is to implement year-round youth development programs that include a high-quality afterschool and weekend signature program during the school year and continued support services over the summer through programs that emphasize continued learning and development through enrichment activity and in some cases targeted academic instructions to stem summer learning loss in math and literacy. This role will emphasize building a culture of innovation and program quality, deep collaborations with community partners, expansion of programs within our service area, creating opportunities for new programs, increasing student enrollment in existing programs, and fiscal accountability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensure your department’s financial benchmarks +/- 3% of the budget to actual by, effectively managing day to day operations, driving revenue by maintaining in great standing of current programs and pursue grants to grow programs, and monitoring departmental expenses
  • Lead the implementation of ASPIRA’s Youth Leadership Development Clubs in all our schools and community schools.
  • Enable proactive, clear, effective, and timely internal communications in order to ensure a positive and consistent member/participant experience.
  • Identify, collect, and interpret data so that it enables informed decision making and ensures the achievement of key performance indicators.
  • Establish new programs and funding streams and expand programming to additional locations within the community in accordance with strategic and operational plans.

Data Compliance and Reporting

  • Implement program partner data measurement and program quality assessment tools and data collection systems, measuring program impact and outcomes that report on student and program success.
  • Monitors program goals to understand trends and identify means for development. Adapts and customizes program portfolio to meet community needs. Optimizes program capacity and enrollment goals
  • Assure compliance with state, local, DCFS, ISBE and other standards as identified in grants. Ensure that ASPIRA’s best practice program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Review ideas and implement new services, programs, or improvements or change methodology to redirect activities and attain objectives.
  • Conduct or participate in workshops, committees, and conferences designed to promote the intellectual, social, and physical welfare of students.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school.

Staff Engagement and Development

  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, and direct personnel and volunteers as needed. Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Understand and stay current with best, evidence-based practices in youth development and curriculum.
  • Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the central administration, parents, and representatives of resource agencies.
  • Act as the MDV Youth Development Center advocate for Youth in all areas including youth development, safety, child abuse prevention, etc. Teach Child Abuse Prevention Training, and other required training, annually and assist with training new staff during the onboarding process.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with all ASPIRA staff, community, administration, parents, and representatives of resource agencies
  • Model and expect of school staff the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with ASPIRA staff, students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school
  • Model and communicate the commitment to ASPIRAs mission and vision
  • Implement and follow with fidelity the Network’s policies and procedures and other duties as assigned

Community Engagement and Strategic Partnerships

  • Develop and maintain relationships with participant families, school administration, parent groups and other organizations/agencies related to assigned programs
  • Establish and maintain relationships with schools, colleges, community organizations, and other public and private agencies officials in order to coordinate educational services.
  • Collaborate with other Network Leadership on ASPIRA committees and projects, such as: Grants Committee, Risk Management, Annual Support Campaign, and other projects as assigned.

Family and Student Engagement

  • Promote and ensure the support and partnership of connecting our ASPIRA students to our ASPIRA Miguel Del Valle Youth Development Center (MDV)
  • Actively promote and support the ASPIRA Youth Leadership Development Program (LPD) through MDV Youth Center
  • Communicate regularly with families, ensuring they are kept involved with their children’s performance
  • Respond to families concerns promptly, respectfully, and effectively with the goal of deepening the school’s relationship and partnership

Marketing and Communication

  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information. Plans community engagement strategy. This includes collaborating with peers and leaders in and outside ASPIRA.
  • Co - Designs outreach collateral needed to support recruitment activities including, but not limited to: flyers, posters, newsletters, press releases, and social media
  • Maintains Network database of stakeholders, community leaders, business owners, and parents that will provide support to Network Initiatives.
  • Creates and maintains data points to showcase of ASPIRAs’ accomplishments
  • Provides content for the ASPIRAs website to ensure consistent messaging and current content; ensure third-party platforms for both staff and student recruitment

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Human Services, Education or related field.
  • A minimum of four years of experience with youth programs.
  • Three years of supervisory experience including program management and evaluation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, public speaking and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the state with advance notice.
  • Bilingual (English/ Spanish).
