Job Summary:
The Production Supervisor is responsible for the productive operation of their department. This included the responsibility to plan and schedule production operations within each department to meet goals and to meet key metrics, schedule work, assist with employee selection, review employee performance, administer work rules, maintain department inventory system, and work instructions. To the extent that it falls within department control, the Production Supervisor is responsible for service levels, productivity, and quality management.
The Production Supervisor will recommend equipment upgrades, staffing adjustments and process modifications, provide leadership for team members and support company policies. The Production Supervisor is responsible for managing the link between the Ortho SBU and its customers, and primarily responsible for addressing all serious customer inquiries and complaints in a knowledgeable, quick, and professional manner. This position requires the individual to be knowledgeable of company’s products, services, policies, procedure, and practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with the Production Manager to develop direct and indirect labor and equipment plans to support sales goals, service, and operational metrics.
- Schedule department workflow to maintain production quality, cost, safety, customer response levels and output requirements.
- Monitor employee performance to ensure quality and quantity metrics are met (labor standards, error rates, scrap, and on time delivery).
- Promote Lean Manufacturing with emphasis on continuous improvement; review current processes to eliminate waste, analyze and initiate production and service performance, resulting in efficiency gains and cost reductions, while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Collect and analyze data to support daily production and service metrics.
- Facilitate inventory counts as needed; coordinate inventory, tools and supplies and order from internal departments, as well as outside suppliers.
- Utilize problem-solving techniques, team-building strategies, and project management.
- Propose capital acquisitions for consideration.
- Hire, train, guide and monitor personnel to meet department goals.
- Identify individual and department training needs and schedule and monitor for effectiveness.
- Communicate down-time, scheduling or inventory constraints, quality concerns and shipment delays along with a recovery plan as applicable.
- Maintain quality by analyzing non-conforming product and implementing continuous improvements.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating team members through the use of 5S methodology.
- Perform daily production report and other reports as required.
- Responsible for employee evaluations and reviews.
- Responsible for employee disciplinary counseling including separations as necessary.
- Initiate, report, and follow-up customer complaints in accordance with Ortho SBU quality system requirement.
- Handle customer complaints and act to resolve any customer issue by utilizing the SBU’s Complaint Procedure.

Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience in a fast-paced production environment.
- Experience with customer service.
- Knowledge of ISO 13485 medical device process and quality.
- Knowledge of Microsoft office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- 3-4 years’ experience leading a department.
- Ability to complete tasks independently, to set priorities, communicate with employees and use time effectively.
- Must be able to sit for at least 4 hours at a time.
- Have normal eye/hand motor coordination and the ability to grasp and hold small objects.
- Possess a normal extended reach.
- Consistently uses manual dexterity.
- Have the ability to determine color acuity.
- Must be able to travel via car or plane to designated areas.
- Must be able to transport, lift, and demonstrate materials, product and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.
