POLICE OFFICER (Lateral/ Academy Graduate)
Salary : $6,772 - $8,232 Monthly/ $81,267 – $98,784 Annually

THE POSITION: The Police Officer Lateral (Academy graduate) is responsible for law enforcement and crime prevention work; to control traffic flow and enforce state and local traffic regulations and to do related work as required. Police Officers serve an eighteen (18) month probationary period.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education: Possession of a High School diploma or the equivalency.
Experience: One (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
License & Certifications: Possession of valid California Class C driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment and upon appointment.
Possession of certificate of completion of a Basic Police Academy certified by California Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.).
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States (or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for, and who has ap-plied for, citizenship at least one year prior to application for employment. Application for citizenship shall not have been denied.)
Language Skills: The ability to speak and understand Spanish is highly desirable, but not required.
Background and Exam Process: Successful candidates will be required to undergo a standard Police Background investigation including fin- gerprinting, polygraph exam. Psychological evaluation, and complete physical exam with drug screening.

- Demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgement, impartiality, diplomatic demeanor, and discretion.
- Is well spoken with accurate, clear, and logical writing capabilities.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: The starting salary will be commensurate with the experience, qualifications and skills of the successful candidate and within the range of $6,772 - $8,232 monthly.

- Uniform Allowance is $1,000 for full-time sworn Police Officer per fiscal year and is non-Persable for PEPRA members.
