Payroll Associate I

Hiring Salary Range: $55,000-$69,000

Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.



Detailed Description


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Verify, and update as needed, Oracle employee master files for personnel and benefits changes, as well as direct deposit and tax withholding updates initiated via Employee Self-Service.
  • Audit expense reports by checking totals, verifying account numbers, verifying the appropriateness of the expenses, and confirm required receipts are included.
  • Coordinate with appropriate functional areas regarding payroll and benefit information.
  • Assist and inform employees with questions regarding payroll, including withholdings, benefit deductions, and involuntary deductions such as wage withholding orders.
  • Prepare and process payroll checks, final payments at time of terminations, and miscellaneous wage payments.
  • Maintain electronic and paper payroll files.
  • Prepare payroll liability account reconciliations.
  • Adhere to and demonstrate compliance with appropriate electric utility industry regulatory requirements. Attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of development in regulations, laws, standards and best practices applicable to the functional area including, but not limited to, Standards of Conduct, Environmental, Employment Law, NERC Reliability Standards and Safety. Must be familiar with, and comply with, all aspects of Corporate Policy C-54, Compliance.

  • Perform various general accounting functions as requested.
  • Perform special projects and respond to requests for information as required.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training

  • Associates degree in Accounting or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • Working knowledge of payroll fundamentals.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers, computerized payroll and accounting systems, Microsoft Office products.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat DC
  • Ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations as they apply to payroll.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Experience:

  • One (1) to three (3) years (or equivalent combination of experience and education).

Other:

  • Willingness to prepare and research special projects.

DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of accounting concepts preferred.
  • Familiarity with Oracle payroll software desired.
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.

  • Mental demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is required to read, write, analyze accounting and payroll data and reports, exercise judgment, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality, and work independently, make decisions concerning payroll processing and reconciliation, present information to others and work under pressure.
  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is exposed to moderate level of noise. Majority of duties are performed indoors primarily at a desk.
