Hayward Area Memorial Hospital & Water’s Edge is looking to add Patient Care Tech’s to the Med/Surg team! The Patient Care Technician provides clinical and administrative support to the department staff. The Patient Care Technician prepares patients for physician examination, measures and records vital signs, performs EKG’s, foley catheter placement, and collects lab samples as needed. They also assist with splints and slings, procedures, and exams as needed. This position cleans, inspects, and sets up rooms and equipment. Additionally, provides basic support to patients during their stay including assisting with feeding and grooming. Responsibilities/Duties:

• Monitors the patients’ temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.
• Collects lab samples from patients, such as blood or urine.
• Performs EKG’s as needed.
• Foley catheter placement.
• Assist providers with procedures as needed.
• Assist with chaperones exams as needed.
• Assists with fitting patients with splints and slings
• Assists with turning, repositioning and moving patients between beds, wheelchairs, and seats.
• Helps patients use the bathroom and dress.
• Helps the nursing and administrative staff with updating patients’ medical records.
• Cleans, inspects, and sets up rooms and equipment.
• Restocks supplies as needed.
• Clerical work such as answering phones and transferring calls.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
• Communicates appropriately and clearly to RNs, staff members, medical staff and other providers.
• Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
• Treats patient and families with respect and dignity.
• Demonstrates the ability to be flexible & organized. Is able to function under stressful situations.
• Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Uses proper body mechanics.
• Orients new employees when necessary.
• Responds promptly to changes in workload, adjusting assignments as necessary to achieve optimal productivity, efficiency and fiscal responsibility.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
