PART-TIME FACILITY GROUNDSKEEPER I- BASEBALL/SOFTBALL Job at Knox County, TN

Purpose of Job

The purpose of this classification is to perform routine manual work in connection with the general and specific upkeep and maintenance of ballfields. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to a drug screen.


Essential Functions

The Facility Groundskeeper 1 is responsible for the following essential functions:

  • Works on and has knowledge of daily baseball field repair and maintenance
  • Performs basic upkeep of the facilities i.e., grass cutting, weed eating, edging curbs, trimming bushes, trash pickup, bathroom cleanliness, painting, etc.
  • Performs general cleaning and minor maintenance duties, maintaining all field out buildings, adjacent walks and grounds, and equipment in clean, orderly and functional condition.
  • Assist with minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs.
  • Assist with basic construction tasks in maintaining and repairing erosion control, diversion, and drainage systems to protect field facilities.
  • Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
  • Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours
  • Perform other duties as required

  • Ability to operate a variety of tools including but not limited to hand tools, power tools, lawn mowers and weed eaters

Physical Requirements

  • This position requires the ability to engage in frequent heavy physical activity and occasional heavy physical activity.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE)that may consist of eye protection, ear protection, hard hats, gloves, etc.
  • Must be physically able to perform the basic life operation functions of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, pushing, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to engage in frequent physical activity such as bending, kneeling, squatting, standing for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Operate a limited variety of power equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers, weed eaters and groomers.

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, cold and hot weather conditions including precipitation
  • Risk of physical injury due to repetitive motions
  • Exposure to sunlight for extended periods of time
