The Parks and Programs Manager position is primarily responsible for management oversight of Coon Fork County and Harstad Parks. With management, staffing, and operational oversight being primary camping season functions. During the offseason this position will assist with project management on other capital projects along with grant program oversight of ATV and Snowmobile trail aids programs. During the winter months, maintenance duties would include grooming of cross-country ski trails at Coon Fork and Evergreen ski trails.

• Ensures that park grounds, buildings, beaches, facilities, and equipment are maintained in a safe and clean condition
  • Hires, trains, supervises and delegates workload to seasonal park employees
  • Makes regular inspections of park grounds and playground equipment
  • Performs maintenance duties and repair work as needed
  • Operates equipment including tractor/backhoe, skid steer, ski trail grooming equipment, snowplowing equipment, chainsaws, hand powered tools, and commercial riding mowers

  • Registers campers and maintains an accurate, up to date campsite registry
  • Maintains good public relations with campers and answers questions effectively
  • Monitors reservations of campsites and picnic shelters using the internet reservation system
  • Collects fees for campsites, firewood, ice, boat rentals, vehicle passes, and vending machines
  • Collects, records, and forwards fees and revenues to the local bank deposit box
  • Oversees campers and park visitors and enforces county park ordinances and regulations, issuing citations when appropriate
  • Maintains records and submits reports
  • Recommends changes in operations or procedures
• Assists in performing administrative responsibilities of the County parks and forest
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual budget, annual report, short- and long-range developmental plans and annual work plan for the department.
  • Establishes priorities for projects, securing Director's approval as necessary.
  • Researches, evaluates, and makes decisions or recommendations regarding department purchases and repair of department vehicles, equipment, and facilities and goods and services anticipated to be purchased by the department.
    • Secures approval of Director and Purchasing Agent as appropriate.
  • Secures necessary permits from U.S. Corps of Engineers, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, County Planning and Development and Highway Departments.
  • Establishes and maintains records and prepares and/or presents reports.
• Supervises shelter reservations and activities to assist the public and ensure that facilities are used in a safe and appropriate manner
• Assists with establishing and maintaining departmental operational policies and procedures
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Bachelor’s degree in Park Management, Natural Resources Management, Recreation Planning, Recreation Administration, or closely related field
• Two (2) years field experience in the area of parks management or related fields involving public contact and enforcement of regulations.
