Two years’ experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, or recreational facility; OR two years' experience as a trade’s assistant under the supervision of a skilled trades¬person, or completion of an appropriate two-year technical/trades school course.

Duties Description
Under the supervision of higher-level park management, the Park Worker 3 will perform a variety of administrative duties as assigned and semiskilled maintenance or repair work in one or a combination of areas within Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park. The Incumbent, will be responsible for answering phones, taking daily attendance reports, responding to inquiries from the public and other duties as assigned. The Incumbent will supervise summer and long seasonal staff in maintenance and daily activities within the parks complexes while learning and perfecting their skills, may perform journey level activities under supervision or after receiving detailed instruction. Typical assignments include but are not limited to:

  • Performing maintenance activities including mopping, refuse removal, cleaning structures, painting, maintenance of equipment or computer files or folders, snow and ice removal, use of self propelled equipment, minor carpentry, masonry, plumbing or electrical repair as needed.
  • Supervising seasonal employees engaged in similar maintenance duties.
  • Perform grounds landscaping on natural and building maintenance, including restroom cleaning, using green practices and a variety of tools.
  • Operate motor driven and or hand tools in the performance of assigned tasks.
  • Prepare written reports in response to specific assignments, and to supervise lower level permanent and seasonal staff.
  • Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices by directing staff and working with patrons to minimize potential problems.
  • Perform a variety of administrative duties by assisting with inventories and collection of data for work orders and other assignments as needed.
  • The incumbent will work closely with volunteers, the community, and vendors to assure NYS Parks’ mission is always met.

OPERATIONAL NEEDS:

? Candidates must possess effective communication skills and have the ability to understand written and/or verbal material and instructions.
? Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying items of varying weights and sizes.
? Candidates must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license as a term and condition
of employment.
? Weekend, Evening, and holiday shifts may be required.
? Candidate is expected to have proficiency in Excel, Word, and Microsoft Outlook.
? Candidates may be required to report to other facilities on an as needed basis.
? Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
? The selected candidate will be expected to and may occasionally support work assignments in other State Parks throughout the New York City Region
